Laptops - Whats hot and whats not currently?

... IBM used to be good , I'm not sure now they have been taken over by lenovo ... ...

As Mr. E says above - the Lenovo ThinkPads are still the same machines, built by the same people, in the same place, using the same components .... the only thing that has changed is the Company ownership.

Plus, they will continue to be branded as IBM ThinkPads for a while yet.

An ex-colleague kept the same Toshiba laptop from 1995 and only changed in 2005!! It was slow admittedly, had an awful screen by todays standards, weighed a tonne, but he said it did everything he wanted it to.

Reluctantly changed to a Dell this year, out of absolute necessity and insistence from our IT support - it was only a matter of time before something failed. An impressive track record though!!

I noticed this the other day - opposite end of the spectrum to what your after - but seems like an incredible buy. I would imagine only most demanding users (and gamers) have a need for a better spec.

are you trying to emulate the wee computer shop 2 years down the line when your getting overheating and battery issues ? :D

Just read the press over the past three or so years. EVERY manufacturer has had issues at one point or another, as we all tend to source from the same suppliers for certain things e.g. batteries, power supplies etc.

Acer have a nice new line up for this year... also theres some nice HP's... Dell are going down market, same with IBM's new design... looks like something from the 80s!

IBMs [read Lenovo] new design is simply an alternative to the standard machines. You can have it with or without, and the reason it was done ...... 'coz people asked for it.
