A good mate has been offered a late 50's 220SE pontoon. It is supposed to be a very clean example. Could any of you guys and girls help with perceived values of such a beautiful bit of kit. It is left hand drive and he wrang me for advice. In truth I have absolutely no idea. Thanks for your help, regards, Graeme

I have no idea what posts 3-6 are about & have a feeling I don't want enlightenment.

PM Pontoneer on here, he knows about them.

Well if it's a 220SE, it could be a saloon, coupe or cabrio, all with a 2.2litre 'six'.

The coupe is the rarest, at less than 900 built, but obviously the cabrio is the most sought after.

Prices range from £10k-low teens for the saloon to £30k+ for a decent cabrio.

A bit out of my specialism, I'm afraid; in fact, you now know as much as I do about them.

Much appreciated and the car is a cabriolet. So the general consencus of opinion is that they are not worth big bucks. Unlike say a 280SE3.5 Cabriolet. ?

exactly... the ponton saloon was the cheapo of the range in its day, almost like a c class today.. they were later widely used as taxi's..

the cabrios and coupes are always worth more, much like a modern E class coupe or cabrio...

i have seen rough poton's go for less than 10K and good cabrios for up to 25-30K...

yes the 280SE is much more desirable..
