I intend to SORN my E36 when the VED expires at the end of this month.

My insurance expires at the same time.

Anyone have any knowledge / experience of this this please.

Don't want to pay the full on-road risk element when it's garaged, but still need fire and theft I guess.

Thanks

My classic car insurer had no issue with SORN on my SM when off the road as long as it was garaged. As the car went off road and back on within the normal annual term of the policy price was no lower. Given the cost of a classic car policy is so low, stick it on a normal one at the lowest mileage (3000) then you won't have to worry at any point should you take it off SORN.

I sorn'd a car for a while. Spoke to NFU who were happy to keep me on F&T for the duration. No problems at all.

Hi Charles,

Just had my renewal through for the E36 and it's come in at £288! That's with 3000 miles, garaged, etc.

Sure it was less than that last year...

Will have to do some phoning around.

I pay £110 on my SM with 5000 miles.

Shop around.

My E55k, garaged only SORN (layed up 0mls) insurance with Adrian Flux was £138.

I believe you do not actually legally have to insure a sorned vehicle, but probably worth it, if the car is valuable. Not sure if home contents would cover it if garaged, and attached to property?

I have a vehicle sorned, and uninsured, but not worth much, so never bothered.

Just had a quote come in from a "SORN specialist" at - wait for it - £155!!

My cheapest quote thus far for Fully Comp and actually driving the old girl was £199

I hate insurance companies!

I'm pretty sure that NFU charged me less than £100 (f&t) for my G when I sorned it.
