Hi Everyone,

I am planning to repair the leaking high pressure power steering hose on my 2010 (29.12.2010) E 350 3.0 litre V6 CDI (Chassis 212.223 engine: OM642.852). Started leaking following a trip to the Swiss Alps last year (lots of serpentines :)) and high demand on the power steering.
Since, I keep topping up the fluid level, but its far from ideal as I have used about 2.5 l in the past 1 year. Another long journey of about 6000 km is coming up along with an MOT in July, so I want it fixed.

I was servicing the car today (air and diesel filters, removal of the turbo pipe etc..) and had the opportunity to check from where the leak is originating (dye and UV torch involved) and it appears that is the high pressure hose from the rack going to the pump.

I was trying to locate the part number, however unsuccessfully, and wonder whether any of you attempted to replace this hose and know the part number that I should buy. It looks a difficult job given the geometry of the hose but not impossible - I am an eager DIY-er :).

I have checked the 7zap, courtesy to MrGreedy, who kindly pointed towards this database which I found extremely useful, however it does not provide the details of the high pressure hydraulic hose, please see snapshot below.

Tomorrow I am doing the oil change on the car and I will go on a small ramp, hopefully I will have better access to check further.

Any help / advice would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance - Istvan

When my hose went (E class estate) I took it to the local hose/hydraulics supplier who made a new one while I waited for less than £20!

Try Pirtek.....most cities have one. Used them a few time to replicate pipes and hoses that are no longer available ex factory.

After hours of research, I think I came to the conclusion that the faulty part is probably A2124602324, however I will attempt to check it tomorrow. Apparently the part number is on the pump end of the hose on the ferrule. Let's see how lucky I am tomorrow :).

I will take the advise and see whether the hose can be repaired at all - will contact Pirtek tomorrow and will check other local hose/hydraulics suppliers as well.

ALFAitalia - how expensive Pirtek are based on your experience? The cheapest I managed to find A2124602324 was £278.98.

Thank you for your responses - much appreciated.

Cheers,
Istvan

They have all been between £25 and £75.
