Hi,
Is it common for the roof to leak on a CLK convertible?
Do you know how much it will cost to replace the rubber seal?

It might help if you could describe which seal you are referring to.

The convertible roof leaks on the passenger side just above the window.

Hi
Had a problem with mine leaking above the passenger window. Came out in a stream from the plastic trim when I pulled off and dripped from this area when stood.
Is this what you have ??
Best Regards
Mike

Exactly what I'm suffering from with my W209......on both sides.

I've checked all accessible drain away points and all seems clear - appreciate any advice.

Hi
To cure my problem I resealed the softtop using a product from Renovo.
Paying particular attention to the stitching along the window line. I suspect that it leaks through here and builds up under the sealing molding.
I would advise using there cleaner and then the sealer. On my CLK it was poring in ever time it rained. I done this end of Oct and it's been dry as a chip even through the recent bad weather.
If you decide to try it , let me know how you get on.
Best Regards
Mike

Thanks Mike. I shall try that.

Thanks for the recommendation - I'll give it a go.

Glad it worked for you too. Mine stayed dry all winter. Really chuffed :)

We have found the fix!!!. if your CLK convertible is leaking water from the inside ceiling near the driver or / and passenger door near roof joint, we have found the fix. Stage 1: Open the roof and stop halfway, carefully squeeze your hands into the roof, you will find 3 layers, 1. The outer canvas, 2. the middle thermal, 3. the inside roof linear / ceiling. Stage 2: Slowly drip water on the outer layer of canvas and use a torch to look at the gap between the other layer canvas and the middle thermal layer, every 10-15secs move the water inch by inch, you will eventually find water leaking. Stage 3. Mark the leaks with a crayon on the canvas, be aware there may be a couple of leaks, it's usually where the other layer is connected to the middle layer. Stage 4. On the inside of the canvas, where the leak is, put a patch of specifically all-weather extreme Gorilla Tape. Stage 5: On top of the canvas paint Renovo all over, about 3 layers, and allow time to dry in between. Stage 6: 24 hrs later, spray over a nanotech bedding spray like from Chemical brothers, again about 3 layers.

The Renovo stuff is good, I've used on a few convertibles over the years especially when you need to bring the colour back as the dye kits are great however there is a better solution to just re proof the roof. Try Fabsil Gold. As used on millions of tents around the world, pay extra attention to the stitched area above the driver and passenger windows as this is usually the area that causes internal leaks.

Renovo is 3 stage roof refurbishment. 1, cleaner, which you scrub on with a stiff nail brush then leave for a while then rinse off with hose and loads of water/time/patience before allowing it to dry. 2, colourant, which is thinner than water, gets everywhere it should not, is easy to rinse/wipe off when wet and a PITA once dried, so mask up well - then let it dry and do not fold the roof for at least 24 hours or you'll get white fold marks. 3, sealant, easy to apply, allow to dry then add a second coat. After that, you should find that every year a spray of Fabsil Gold will do the job for quite a few years before you need to repeat the process!

Also worth treating the roof seals with Gummipflege every 6 months.

Personal experience of 8 1/2 years with a 968 cab, canvas roof.

Another vote for Fabisil gold - I’ve used it with great success on a couple of my convertibles - restores to colour and waterproofs.
And gummi pfledge on the seals too.
Finally clean lubricate all the joints and mechanisms with some lithium grease to stop them jamming up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi there, I realise this is an old post thread but hopefully I get a reply.
My clk w209 (2003)front window edge is leaking & also the passenger window..... Although this may be a run off from the front window!?
Anyway I understand about the 3 stage canvas sealant. Not sure if my canvas is the problem. So is this fabisil something you put on the rubber seal? I might try this first to see how/ if problem persists.

Check the drain is working on the drivers side A pillar .
Use silicone grease or gummipfledge (or krytox) on the seals .
Use Fabsil or Renovo or any convertible top proofer to waterproof the roof , I use Fabsil Gold because it’s cheap ….but that’s me .

No, Fabsil is for fabric.

Gummi Pfledge is for the rubber seals.
Krytox is also for rubber but a lot more expensive.

I had this problem on taking delivery of my CLK in Sept. Water dripping though the roof/A pillar join and splashing onto the seat bolster.

I followed advice, reproofed the hood, gummi pflege on the seals, but clearing the drains seemed most effective. Two drain channels each side, one outside and one under the soft top, running down the 'A' pillar . I used gardening wire with the plastic cut off, and no sharp edges a bit of gummi pflege may help slide it down and around the radiuses too.
You'll need about a meter, once done the water drains inside the door shuts. I've heard plastic strimmer wire works well too.

Since then we have 3 named storms torrential rain and flooding, but the car kept outside has stayed dry in the passenger compartment.

Incidentally whilst at it worth checking all the drains, I found another blocked one in the front scuttle but inside the bulkhead all was clear.

Gratuitous shot of outside drivers side drain.
