Least likely economy run

Thanks to the diesel NOx fiasco we could all be limited 60 mph

We may indeed - but how is that due to the diesel fiasco?

VW, et al, lied about how well they were reducing emissions - they didn't suddenly create additional emissions.

The fiasco was that the government inadvertently encouraged a fuel with real world high NOx emissions and now have to do something about it.

Good figures for a large AMG!

25mpg+ seem impressive for such a large and powerful car as the ML63. The official figure is only about 23mpg.

At the other end of the spectrum, in this thread the OP's ML63 was only getting 6mpg (though was being driven only in central London...).

For my part, I recently had a similar motorway journey at a steady 55-60mph (with a few miles town driving first) and got an impressive 33.3mpg. It might have gone higher but the traffic cleared then and I speeded up so the average figure didn't improve any further after that.

I know exactly what you mean. :thumb:

When towing I play exactly the same game, maintaining speed and therefore momentum is good for fuel economy and even more so when towing. It also means that I'm hopefully not getting in anyone's way and holding them up.

Out of interest what MPG do you get whilst towing?
Mine's pretty horrendous so if it's not significantly worse with a 6.2 V8 the options when replacing my tow car suddenly look "Interesting" to say the least! Also what did you used to get with the ML270?

Personally I don't get too excited about poor MPG whilst towing as I just factor it into the cost of holidaying!

When towing I suspect the most influential factor on fuel consumption like for like is wind speed and direction.

You can read more at the link below, but in short:
W164 ML63 AMG: 14-16 MPG towing a twin axle caravan
W163 Ml270 CDi: 21-23 MPG towing a twin axle caravan

Both took a hit of around 6 MPG when towing, which actually means that proportionally towing affects the ML270 more than the ML63.

Strange how this thread is shining a light on just how good the combination of W164 platform and M156 engine really is. A high revving petrol engine shouldn't be a good match for an SUV but it works really well: 25.5 MPG, an AMG which can tow, and last but not least...

...this evening I had the pleasure of following a McLaren 675LT driving at 8/10ths for quite a long time. Well until he turned off the road

My dream car Rob, will you buy me one along with those McLaren sunglasses?

Crikey Ant, you don't forget a thing!

I've seen a few LTs just lately, the others weren't giving it the beans though, this one was. It's a seriously good looking car, and sounded great in a "means business" rather than "sounds sexy" kind of way. It was great fun watching the active aero, the rear spoiler was constantly doing something.

Memory like an elephant Rob. :D

Btw if you can't stretch to an LT then I'm happy to settle for:

McLaren Qualified Cars for sale in Manchester

I'll have it signed up and a tow bar fitted to pull my tipping trailer. ;)

I've never even seen a road going McLaren. I keep promising myself to pop into the showroom next time we're in Manchester.

I've not driven it for almost a week and half when it was fettled by the main dealer. Whether it's the work the main dealer performed or a classic case of a break doing me good, but my goodness me, it went and sounded even better than ever on my way home from work this evening. I blooming love that car!

It even surprised me with it's pace at times. Sadly there were no supercars to follow this evening, only a Focus ST who didn't seem to like being overtaken and came past me at silly speed and had to swerve to avoid rear-ending another car in front me. Noodle.
