I spotted a leather interior for my CE the other day on Ebay

Click me

Anyway to cut a long story short, I went to see it and found that it was the complete interior, carpets, panels, dash, seats, door skins, lining, wood... everything. All in very good nick.

The real bonus is that the stuff was taking up so much space that he let me have the lot for £50...yes, you heard me, FIFTY quid   <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> .

Now here comes the big bit. I am a little bit hesitant to just start ripping bits out in a randomly and wondered if anyone had changed a whole interior before that could offer any advice/assistance.

To me it looks like it could be a mamouth two day job but I am hoping someone will tell me otherwise.

[Still grinning at the price I got]

I will help you install - where are you based?

FLAPPING HECK!!

£50 for a late style soft leather trim for a 124 coupe!!!

from mercs those trims are roughly £2-3k!!!!

I have stripped out loads of these cars, and fitted &nbsp;complete trim a number of times.

is your interior originaly that burgundy/red colour, if so, it saves you all the hard work!! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I am not far from you Koolvin. I am only in Richmond.

BTW, It just so happens that both sunvisors have the illuminated mirrors just like yours  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>.

V12, I am affraid that my existing one is mushroom so everything has to come out. Perhaps I could do it in stages like carpets and seats one weekend  and dash and panels etc another.

The ideal thing for me really is to find someone willing to trade my entire new set for just a set of leather mushroom seats as that way it would save me one #### of a headache and besides TBH I think I would prefer the mushroom. (You wouldnt perhaps know of anyone that might be tempted to do the swap would you V12?) Failing that, How much would you charge me to do the work yourself? <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

I hope you got the associated wiring...

Shude...not for long, i have sold koolvin a pair, he will have them tomorrow lunchtime <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

The only Mushroom leather i have is either for S-Class's or saloon 124.

I do not do fitting, totally a parts man (sorry)

I will dig out some pictures of what red looks like with mushroom, a kind of 2 colour thing looks quite sporty and cool... <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Hmm ok, that would be very nice if you could.

I suppose it could work....but without seeing it, I have my doubts. It did cross my mind though I must say.

The original owner did say that the car had the mushroom headlining with the red interior as standard so I guess it shouldnt clash too much.

Would be very interested to see the pics though. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Still cant manage to find the pics, but you may be able to find them on the net.

Basically the interior i am talking about is a custom one from the US tuners Renntech and it was very popular in there version of the V12 SL (129) <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I have found a shot of it, it is slightly different to what i recall...

Here goes anyway :

Some will like it, some will hate it...

To be honest i would unbolt your old seats and bolt in your new ones (rear ones are not bolted) for now, see how it looks, that is like a 20min job. If it looks out of place with your existing door-cards swap them which is not a monster job either.

The worst is all the carpet/dash and pillar trims which are always a pain to get perfectly right.

If you can get away with your old dash/console/carpets, your laughing! (we have loads of customers that use black dashes/consols with blue trim in there 190's as it looks much better with the 2-tone effect than all being the same colour.

sorry to keep posting...

Does your old dash have walnut wood trimings?

also i presume you had manual seats before?

<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

err it has wood trimmings...I think a teak effect rather than walnut. I have got the walnut set with the new interior.

Seats both new and old are manual. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

The reason i say what wood did you have is, if you change your door card, you will have to change your dash to match, unless you wanna do some bodging with evo-stick...

you may not even like the pic i posted...in that case, fit the whole thing! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Well I made a start on it this weekend and boy is this a BIG job. Its taken about 8 hours so far, mostly because I am having to learn the sequence to get things off and partly because I am being extreamely careful to get it absolutely spot on.

I thought I would tackle it in stages....I have now done the dashboard and centre console, (the two hardest bits by far), the door skins, seats, and most of the other trimmings.

For the moment, I have left the carpets as I want to properly shampoo them before putting them in the car and I recon that apart from removing the seats (again) and slackening off a few bolts in the panels here and there to get the carpet under, I it should go pretty smoothly.

I opted to stay with my original teak effect inlays as some of the walnut was a little ropey and I didnt want a mixture. It turns out that all the wood trim is held in place by 7mm nuts (hand tight) so changing them over was easy.

I must say that after the dash removal I feel pretty confident in finishing the job by next weekend apart from the rear parcle shelf which sadly didnt come in the package. The seller kept his and refelted it in mushroom....looks like I will have to do the same but in reverse (silly huh&#33<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>. Still, he did such a #### fine job that I couldnt tell he'd done it. He has told me the secret to doing it (soak the felt in PVA mix first) so all I have to do is find some colourmatched felt somewhere.

Oh, btw V12, you dont happen to have a parcle shelf for a CE do you? I don't mind what colour it is or how shabby it is Coz I am gonna recover it anyway. I only want it so I keep the complete mushroom interior as a set.

Also, Geoff, is your interior Mushroom? You wouldn't be interested in a new set of mushroom mats would ya?  Bought from MB less than two weeks ago for about £70 notes, and obviously unmarked, yours for half that price if you want them.

Overall I am really chuffed and think it is the best £50 I have ever spent. Will post some piccies when all is finished.

That wood is known as zibrano.

Um, ill check on the shelf for you.

Youve got the hard partts over, the rest is a doddle! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Another one of mine that is better late than never.

I hunted around and managed to find an old picture of the interior as it was before the change and although not too clear it gives an idea what it was like.

You can see below, the interior was mushroom cloth ….nice but a bit worn in places.

The new look you see below kinda grew on me the more I had it. It has a kind of classic car feel to it and feels sort of warm and snug when you are in it. You will see that the dash, console carpets…in fact everything had to go.

Still cant believe I got it for 50 measly quid! &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

Nice!

For 50 Quid you couldnt go wrong, and I would have done the same in your shoes - not the most conservative of colours, but it still looks great from here

2 pimpmobiles on the board now <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
