Thought I'd just share my experience having my seats essentially repainted by a leather specialist.

The S Class seats weren't in a bad state but dotted around the seats and arm rest were what appeared to be paint, that I could not shift at all. I had been discussion with a local repairer who came and had a look and I agreed to have both seats repainted along with the centre arm rest and door card.

The chap set to work and spent the best part of a day masking up the car, preparing the seats and repainting and coating the leather. He asked me how I wanted it finished and I said as close to factory as possible without it looking odd compared to the rears. He explained that as the rears get a lot less wear that should be fine so these have a more matt/original finish to them now.

Also turns out it's real leather not artico which I assumed. Of course the drivers seat has a few wrinkles which is expected for 12 years old but the finish is really good.

Side bolsters all look like new.

So if you have an older car or some scuffs on the seats. I'd highly recommend a restorer/repairer!

Look really good. I used a company called Colourlock, not for a full paint but just for touch ups. Highly recommend them. They’re close-ish to me so took the car to them and they colour matched there and then. I think they will do the work for you but I bought a kit to diy, dead easy to use.

Thanks guys.

I had though about whether I cousins DIY it although I think for touch ups rather than full recolouring I’d be more confident.

The chap who did mine said that abrasion is the biggest cause of damage rather than how long you sit in the seat. Low slung sports cars tend to suffer badly as people drop down into them.

He laughed when I said I wear tracksuit bottoms when I’m picking up my daughter as it’s a 2 hour drive so I want to be comfortable but also kind in the seats. Haha

Good point.

My Mazda has stone-coloured leather seats and overall they're in decent nick. However, getting in and out of it when I've put it in the garage is a squeeze and is pretty tough on the driver's side bolster. Doesn't help the I'm not as young (or slim) as I used to be.

Your seats look great BTW.

You could cut your finger nails every week protecting your seats, long nails are bad for leather seats and the interior.

The repairer was telling me he had a customer with a brand new MX5, sat in the car and a button/stud on his jeans scratched right down the bolster. So he called this guy out who repaired it. The customer only did the same thing again and binned those particular jeans after that! haha
