Hi guys. Took my car in for mot.. Failed on daytime running lights / parking light. I went to Benz in Northampton and they said I could replace the whole headlamp cluster (bixenon) at a cost of 650, but may not fix it. It could be the led control unit at a cost of 250. But to know, I'd need to put it on their diagnostic at a cost of 169 to know which I need. Now, here's the tricky part.. When I put my reg into any website (euro car parts or similar) it comes up with a completely different headlamp assembly (like it's for an older model) (halogen). So I'm not sure if my car has the wrong headlamp or what's going on. Can anyone help? Below are the 2 options, mine is the fitted headlamp. Thanks in advance.. Don't trust EuroCraParts to be accurate on what your car has. MB will know for sure. I imagine it has the correct lamps fitted and the aftermarket brigade are wrong.

You might want to invest in an iCarsoft MB v2.0 scanner, it's not as good as the dealer's STAR machine, but it should be good enough to read the fault codes which may hopefully point to the faulty part.

With regards the part you need... ignore anything EPC say. If you can make-out the MB part number on the existing unit then great, if not, then post your VIN here and someone with EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) will check out the part number for you.

As for the dealer... this isn't a job for them, find a good independent specialist in your area. Jay from Marcland is less than an hour away from you:

If I'm not mistaken, up to a certain year day time running lights don't come under MOT jurisdiction. Obviously side lights do. If the lights were an optional extra on your car that could be the mix up at ECP.
