Hi guys,

I'm fed up with the yellow tint sidelights on my 2002 W208 CLK and want to replace them with bulbs that give off a pure white light. I've tried Philips Blue Vision and didnt rate them at all and am now considering some white LED bulbs:

What effect will this have on warning messages on the dash computer,
warning signals lights coming on in the dash and anything else ? ? ?

Oh, and which of those 2 pairs of LED bulbs looks better ?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

What happens if i dont do that ?

Will it still work and what sort of affect would it have on warning messages on the computer and warning lights coming on in the dash ? ? ?

The first ones posted, i.e. LUX look to be the better version.

What the problem with some cheap led sidelights are that they point the beam in an almost stright direction and then does not light up the surrounding area inside the lamp housing. This may sound a little strange but i'll see if i can get a picture to show what i mean. Its looks silly having a big headlamp with a tiny led spot sitting in one place inside it.

Those LUX leds you have posted will spread the light everywhere unlike the latter type.

Thanks Ciaran, any ideas on all the warning messages and stuff I can expect to encounter ? ? ?

The bulb warning lamp will be on all of the time,,you could remove that buld or fit resistors bearing in mind that they would need to be of a 10W rating and they will get hot

You will get a bulb failure warning each time the lights come on and each time you switch off the ignition you'll get a very annoying beep :(

PIAA Tera sidelight LED's are made specifically for cars which will bring up a blown bulb warning.

PRESS RELEASE: 14 February 2008

PIAA HYPER LED *PIAA Exclusive*

- The PIA HYPER TERA LED operates at an amazing 6500K which produces a very white HID look with minimal battery drain and can be used in W5W side light fittings.

- PIAA has incorporated a revolutionary adjustable resistor into the HYPER TERA LED for the parking/side light on major European vehicles.

- By incorporating the adjustable resistor PIAA HYPER LED becomes invisible to the highly sensitive on board computer bulb failure systems on most major European vehicles. This prevents the activation of the bulb failure warning, which occurs when using normal LED bulbs with such a system. This adjustable resistor can also prevent abnormal light function of the HYPER TERA LED on certain vehicles.

The retail price is; £78.30 + VAT

AhHh.....Such a pain.

The PIAA sound good but its the wrong fitment for my car. I need the W6W size. Perhaps I should just give up on this one unless anyone else has any other solutions ? ? ?

You will need a set of THESE HYPER TERA LED

Edit, just seen you need the W6W size...

Just put a resistor across each (£5 on ebay), then they will work fine on all the LED sidelight bulbs.
I dont think there is a W6W bulb ? H6W here........http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XENON-5-LED-H...emQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262#ebayphotohosting

Because the voltage of the LED bulbs is different to that of a normal bulb, the car believes that the bulb has fused and thus causing the warning light!

You need a resistor :)
