I feel this post needs a disclaimer first.

As a member of the "HID police", I'm fully aware of the legality (or not) of fitting aftermarket, non-filament, bulbs to a car. These bulbs will not be used on UK roads (or EU roads, and probably not on ANY roads...).

I need some bulbs for the bumper/roof lights of the Mongol Rally Micra. Part of me wants to fit nightbreakers, but I'm worried that the thinner filament wont cope well driving offroad in Turkmenistan, Iran, Tajikistan, etc.

So, for those rare occasions that I may need to drive at night on beaten tracks and potentially offroad (yes, dangerous, I'm aware), I need something I can count on.

I did consider a HID kit, but the idea of fitting a high voltage transformer to the roof of my car didn't sit well.

So I found some cheap (£3-£10 each) LED bulbs on ebay. E.G.:
2x H4 SUPER WHITE CREE HIGH POWERED 472 LED SMD 20W PROJECTOR BULBS LAMP LIGHT | eBay
2x Car Cree H4 HB2 9003 LED Bulb Fog Head Light Lamp Bright White Color 12V 30W | eBay
H4(9003/HB2) Car Cree LED Headlight Kit Bulbs Lamp H/L All In One 60w 6000lm | eBay

There are many, many different types. Being very impressed with the factory LED headlamps on my car, I was wondering if these are similar?

Does anyone have any experience with these?
How bright are they?
How do they deal with vibrations?

I don't specifics of these bulbs. But the led strips I bought for my kitchen are starting to fail after 3 months... I think it's a classic case of you get what you pay for. I'd imagine reliability is your priority. The last thing you need is knackered spots before you've got off the ferry at Calais...!

How about one of these??:

Very bright, no real throw of light, they mess up the beam pattern and don't last long.
I tried them a couple of years ago on my offroader and lashed them after a couple of months because they just kept blowing.

They do led light bars and proper led spots, they are expensive but my god they are bloody good.
