Hi all, I posted this elsewhere and got no response so thought I might try for opinions in here?

Now im really liking the brightness of LED on the CLS and for as long as I have been able I have always had the lights on auto mode in an MB but im not sure how much of a pain to other road users it is with the adaptive headlights and the auto full beam.....on a dark country lane last night some doughnut took it on himself to stick his lights on full beam then make as if to drive straight at me.....not one to be intimidated (and to be frank with nowhere to go) I simply proceeded, but it did make me think if I ought to be doing something different and perhaps not rely on auto mode?

I did check the drive on the left / right option this morning and that was set as it should be btw....

Cheers

What speed were you traveling at?

Adaptive Highbeam Assist in Mercedes-Benz cars is available at speeds of 55 kph / 34 mph and over.

Hi,
Speed wise I would guess anywhere between 30 -40 as it was the proverbial; country lane, up /down bend etc.
I get the adaptive high beam kicking in out etc but I was quite surprised how bright everything is particularly by comparison with my 219. It kinda makes me a bit conscious that it may be too bright for oncoming traffic, hence the question to others that have a similar set up?

Cheers, ATB.

OK...I admit my description was wrong, having read the link nice mr grumpy sent me I intended to describe bi xenon headlights, but then I guess ewveryone knew that already....:D

Same problem tho....

I assume that they are proper factory fitted LED headlights? Does it not work if your speed drops below 34 mph?

It usually causes dazzle when someone fits LED lamps to none LED designed reflectors.

Are they working properly? Check 'The enhanced functionality of the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus', in this link.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the link, I now understand my description was wrong....it seems everything is working fine in auto mode, in fact its double interesting watching the light "move" ahead, a touch of the mysterons perhaps:D

ATB;)

I occasionally had the same response from some drivers in response to my CLS' LED lights, simply pulled the lever to put my headlights on full beam in response. LEDS are the way forward with lights highly directional, bright white light, energy efficiency, need I go on.

I'll certainly miss them when I take delivery of my Audi S5 in September

I find the High Beam Assist activates over 34mph but becomes inactive again once the speed dips below 30mph.

Also, above 80mph (I think) on a dark road like an unlit motorway, the beam range extends automatically.
