Hi All

Thinking of doing a few mods to the Volvo work wagon. As you probably know Volvo use day running lights which means in my case dipped beam is on all the time even in bright sunshine, now I can see the safety benefits but my plan is to do what Volvo do on cars spec'd with xenons. The DRL are actually high intensity LED's in the sidelights, just needs a bit of change in the diagnostics to do this so easy fix. My main question is

I am also thinking of changing the number plate lights to LED's but what is the law about white light on the rear of a vehicle? could LED's be too bright could they cause the number plate to be too reflective or permanently reflective insead of just illuminated.

If anyone could advise on the legality I would appreciate it. Thanks

Re: the law, you should be fine as long as they dont dazzle, new BMWs and Lexus have them as standard.

You will find they will trigger your bulb out light though.

Thanks, It's going on the Volvo though and Number plate lights, sidelights and sidemarkers are not monitored on the bulb out warning system for some strange reason, just main & dip + Rear & stop

Legally you mustn't show a white light to the rear of the vehicle (when moving forward) but as plate lights are reccessed this shouldn't be a problem as the light will be shining onto the plates
