Just read this story on BBC's website. It says there were four men in his CL55 - I thought there were only four seats in a CL (like the CLK). Incorrect?

Having had a good drool over a CL 500 recently I would say you could get 3 people in the back but not with any degree of comfort, and of course there are only 2 seat belts which leaves a few more questions. I think it's just another example of an overpaid footballer believing the world is there for his entertainment regardless of laws and morals. While I dont want to try apportion blame for the accident, it's quite obvious the driver allowed at least one passenger into the car knowing there was no proper seat or seat belt for him.
Unfortunately in this case someone died...

Yep, I thought I'd only seen two in the back of Maff's CL, but I wasn't positive. The CLK has room in the middle of the two seats - but no seatbelt. Often wondered why MB didn't utilise the space better ...

Re; footballers - sadly have to agree. The salaries paid are obscene ... [I'm going to stop there as I could write an essay on this  ]

... what I will say though is that, probably like a lot here, I watched the rugby on Saturday. Not a rugby fan, but I do like to watch the important games. I am a big footy fan. I think, after that showing, I'll probably watch a bit more rugby ;) . What did it for me though was when the National Anthems were being played. *Every* single player sung their hearts out and they were obviously proud to represent their country. Contrast and compare that with the England football team who are so obviously inconvenienced by having to play for England - an honour that they should shout from the roof-tops!

[Sorry - a particular pet hate of mine :) ]

Now convicted:

Premiership footballer Lee Hughes has been jailed for six years for causing death by dangerous driving.

The 28-year-old West Bromwich striker was convicted on Monday of causing the death of father-of-four Douglas Graham in Meriden, near Coventry, in November.

Mr Graham, 56, died after Hughes' £100,000 Mercedes car ploughed into the Renault in which he was a passenger.

Hughes, who had denied the charge, fled from the scene and did not turn himself into police for 36 hours.

Second offence

He was convicted at Coventry Crown Court on Monday, following a six-day trial.

The jury took 90 minutes to reach its decision.

Hughes had earlier admitted failing to stop after the crash last November.

Hughes also admitted a second offence of failing to report an accident following the collision.

In a statement released after the verdict, 50-year-old Mrs Graham described the impact the loss of her husband had had on the family.

"Something has been taken away from my family that can never be replaced," she said.

"We know that we must now simply attempt to come to terms with the loss.

"We can only hope that the person involved will acknowledge what he has done to my family.

"Nobody can understand the huge amount of grief and stress that has been caused to my family over the last nine months."

Mrs Graham said she had never heard of Lee Hughes before the tragedy and had no interest in football.

She said husband had followed the fortunes of Coventry City - one of Hughes' former clubs.

Maybe he was drunk & maybe he was driving like a prat but it should not matter if it was

(i) a professional grease trap cleaner driving a £500 Escort or

(ii) a professional footballer driving "a £100,000 Mercedes Kompressor"

with previous 1 year DD conviction/ban who had legged it after a fatal RTF possibly involving drunk driving.

But it may have here, so whilst he will not get off I have no doubt his lawyers are working up an application for an Appeal for reduced sentence right now

Now released.

Seved 3 years of the 6 he was sentenced to and has signed a contract with Oldham Athletic.

I wonder what he's going to be driving.

Nothing I hope.
He has already demonstrated his (in)ability to behave responsibly behind the wheel of a car, and his inability to accept responsibility for the consequences of his actions.

A man died.

If there is any justice he should be banned for life.

OT: Plus, add no discussion with the Ref, the Ref's word is final and the use of TV referee to advise on decisions.
In my view that wasn't too important a game but they will be important very soon with the start of the World Cup.

Football - a game that exploited players for decades - I have no problem with the large pay that players get.

but there is no seat cushion either just an oddment tray (I think it's different on the 208/209 convertible)

Should owners of high performance vehicles have to take a further test to prove they are competant to handle this type of vehicle?

I think that very much depends on how you define the "type of vehicle".

Besides which it is entirely possible to kill someone with a 1 litre micra and that certainly isn't the same "type of vehicle" yet the outcome would be the same.

Lets hope he has learned his lesson, i think its shocking that he only served 3 years. 3 years is the value they place on another mans life
