Let this be a lesson to all boy racers

Sustained loss of traction law? What a load of old nonsense that is.

Surely if it was a major issue existing road legislation could cope. Driving without due care or attention or something? Do they have a particular issue with burning rubber in NZ then?

wouldnt like to drive in the snow over there .. everyone would be walking in a matter of hours

I bet the residents of the Blackburn Lees Estate and similarly blighted areas would love a law like this.

Alas yes. Road racing has been a big issue for years in NZ and Oz.

:(

Maybe the Police just want to seize the car for their own use. ;)

With such a law in place the driver was somewhat stupid to do a burnout in front of the Police though.

Any mods to a car, including alloy swap and exhaust, chipping etc, need to have a certificate to show the car is safe. If you stopped and dont have one they can impound your car, give you points and a fine. They seem to be very strict over there.

Its HS&E gone mad

We already have one. :D

We can only take the vehicle if a second offence is comitted within 12 months though.

In California they have a similar law - Exhibition of Speed. The Courts take a very dim view of it. The insurance co.s, however, love it because you get as many points for Exhibition as you do for Reckless or Drunk driving and your insurance goes through the #!%ing roof!

There is a serious problem in downtown Auckland with young people buying Skylines, RX7s, Imprezas and the like, then drag racing them. In NZ, motor insurance is still optional, and a used 300hp Jap monster is very affordable for our equivalent of a Corsa driving Chav.

As far as the law in the UK goes, I thought burnouts were covered under driving without due care and attention or dangerous driving?

Laz.

Still a bit OTT taking the mans car. Talk about making an example when I am sure a harsh word would have been sufficient enough for him not to do it again.

God help me if there are any police sitting behind me at a busy round about or junction.

god forbid such insanity crosses the water into our own fair land, ridiculous laws and Political correctness gone mad are bad enough here already
