I have no argument with speed cameras. IMHO they should be at all accident blackspots, with prominent warnings. If a camera saves a life, or prevents an accident its justified.

But I´ve never understood how a life is saved just by taking a photograph of a passing car on an empty road, then sending the driver a bill and 3 points.

According to this article click here some blackspots are being ignored in favour of ¿what exactly?

caught something of this in the news today.

Seems a survey showed there are more cameras on roads where there's been few or no accidents, than there are on the most accident prone roads across the country. Apparently it's being viewed as proof that the police (and/or local councils) have been sticking these things anywhere just to make money.

Now I'm all for road safety, but that's just naff in my opinion

EDIT: sorry, wrote this before reading your link. It obviously got my back up so I'm off to see a stress management consultant

i have been told you can set your alpine sat nav to remind you of where the cameras are , but you have to tell it , so it might be too late.

Hi All, after reading the review on camera's i just could'nt help but think about the 47% safety increase claimed. Do they not realise that the safety figures would rise if the camera's are being put up on safe roads. More camera's they have per mile = higher percentage of safety per camera. It seems to me that those new goverment bits & bobs about camera's and where they should be put, taken down etc are being totally ignored. I've been keeping an eye on a speed camera sign thats on a road without a single camera on it.This sign should have been removed by now but its still there. I wonder who really is running the road system. The goverment or plod. If anyone who drives a car thinks they are being got at by plod you should see how Biker's are being treated. Next they'll be giving us a ticket for having a bike the wrong colour.
