Hi all
I have a annoying misfire I am trying to trace on a 97 c180 w202-
for info there is no management light on and ive had this misfre for about 5 weeks with no water loss or mayo etc so i doubt its the head gasket.
it always starts and idles fine it never stalls etc but on a light throttle at around 1000 - 2000 rpm it does hesitiate/misfire - the hot weather does seem to make it worse - the car also pinks a little under throttle when going up hill. it always averages 32 mpg since i have had it(a couple of months). its had new plugs 25k miles ago and i have put on a new air filter and oil filter/oil change. the car will rev fine all the way and acclerates well for a 1.8 in a heavy car.
I though it might be the MAF so as I get on well with the local auto factor they let me briefly try a non genuine replacement - this made things much worse with the car hesitating, pulling back and not wanting to rev so i have discounted that one and think it must have been faulty or something!! -
I tried unplugging my original maf and it seemed roughly the same but no so good on pickup from a low rev.
looking at other posts on the forum I was wandering if it could be the cam magnet? it does have some oil seepage around it and pulling of the connector plug revealed oily contact pins - the connector is also not that tight.
I cant see any procedures for replacing it in the haynes manual and was wandering if it was a relativly simple procedure - also as the car is not worth much are they expensive and do i need to get any seals etc?
I was also thinking it could be the ign leads/caps and as they have never been changed i think i will do these anyway
thanks
will
