I long ago discovered that I am crap at removing Scratches from any sort of Paintwork, someone with much more experience will be along shortly to guide you in getting the Scratch Removed!:)

In the Meantime please be aware that we all feel your Pain:(

If you can feel the scratch with your finger nail then you won't be able to polish it out.
As he says, be very careful with g3 it's pretty course stuff. Yout can try flattish it with 3000 grit then polishing it out but if you go through the clear coat it's game over and a trip to the bodyshop. Where are you based mate?

For a very fine liquid, try Brasso first - sounds daft, but it's actually a very mild abrasive like jewellers rouge! There are also products like Scratch-X, but use a light hand and keep the "abrasive" moist with a water mist spray bottle. If you're successful, follow that with polish and wax - although as you've had the car starguarded it may not be necessary.

I used to hate getting that first scratch on a new car, watch or anything new to me.

I've come to realise that until it's marked it's just the same as any other new thing, now it's marked the car is yours and unique. It will get more marks over time and subsequent ones will be less and less important.

Any scratch removal polishing will also remove the Starguard coating ...

Hi whitenemesis m8...
Thats exactly what i was also worried about man.....awwww.....made it even worse you now man.....hahahahaha...thanks!!!
But on a serious note that is what i was also concerned about....
Suppose only would be a small area but even so its not good man..thank you for your posts my m8

My advise would be to give the area a good rub with WD40 applied on microfibre cloth.

It won't fix the scratch, but it will remove other deposits from the area and will allow you to see what exactly you are dealing with.

It will most likely allow you to apply whatever rubbing compound you choose to apply on a much smaller area compared to what currently seems to need buffing.

And it won't harm the paint... cost next to nothing so must be worth a try. It does not work every time, obviously, but it did save the day for me on quite a few occasions.

Hey mark j...
Thanks for that buddy...
My only worry with that is the stargaurd, never thought about, but it could remove it if i polish it maybee m8....what donu think ?
Im going to go through everyone's posts see whats the best solution...thank you marc bud, appreciate ya help man

I don't think it will damage the StarGuard. Essentially it will 'lift' any residue that might have been deposited on the paint by the other vehicle (or object).

Perhaps approach your dealer, they may be able to deal with it easily and re-apply the StarGuard, might even get it done FOC! (No harm in asking as it's such a new car..)

Hi again pal....
Ya know what could be a good idea whitenemesis bro....
Im not sure if i trust myself having a go m8 to be honest...i could mess it right up,could be a good move to ring merc see if they can help me out,as they in my bad books and they can redeem themselves...
Had to put extra £500 deposit because couldnt find log book, suppose to get it bk within 3 days when new book arrived and took them nearly 2 weeks to refund it...so surely they owe me 1 m8..lol

Thank you for all your posts...
Also rhank you to everyone who posted....

Also checked scratch, dont seem deep but can feel it with nail...DAM!!!
Can also only see it at certain angle,so dont stand out a lot,but i know its there....haha..

Thank you guys
Ill post on here what the result is...
Take care ✌

If it is just the clearcoat, I'd perhaps try some nail varnish to fill the scratch first then attack with an abrasive polish like Brasso to see it that solves the problem.

If you can feel the scratch then polishing with correct compound and a rotary or da is the only way to make it look better and take the eye off it, if it's down to primer then a smart repair or proper paint job will be needed, I wouldn't be using brasso or any other home items to try and make it look better as you could easily make it worse

As much as I feel for the OP, unfortunately it won't be the first scratch or mark he gets...car parks seem to have much smaller spaces (more cars = more money) and other some road users are not exactly careful opening doors etc. Then there's stone chips...
How do we keep our cars in pristine condition, apart from keeping them in a locked garage and never using them...
