lights on!!!

hi there i am a new member and drive a ml 270 cdi y reg got in car this morning and started it up and when pushing brake to put into gear the Bas esp light and ets light both came on and stayed on tried switching ignition off and then back on and same thing happens any ideas is it safe to use car? is it a main dealer problem? be gratefull for some advice thanks

Try turning the steering wheel from left lock to right lock a couple of times with the engine running.
Could also be a faulty brake light switch which is cheap from the dealer.
You can fit this yourself easily.

Could be dodgy speed sensors. Have you done anything to the car that involved disconnecting the battery or messed with the brakes etc at all? If so then it might need running up to 10kph to clear the faults and reset. If that doesn't clear it then I'd take it to your dealer for a looksee.

Should be OK to drive - but with caution as the safety features appear not to be functioning correctly.

thanks for the swift replies guys , i have run the car for several miles to no avail, i have seen a few people mention the brake light switch in other problems are they not a normal n/c switch?

You would not believe the problems this little switch can cause .

nice clk we had a 200 kompressor convertible before ml wife was devastated when we sold it had to because family got larger, very nice cars

At £9 the switch is the first thing to change, turning the wheel 3 times will only re set the ESP and not the BAS
