Limo rescue complete

I dont know that you can offer such leeway now that the MOT test is done online in real time with the DVLA.

Its only a free retest if its a simple electrical problem and its brought back within 24 hours of failure according to the DVLA.

That said... I've been looking around and according to my interpretation, It seems this 120 times per second only applies to cars first registered after 1986.

see http://www.ukmot.com/1-5.asp

Am I reading it correctly? Is the tester in the wrong here or is it me?

Your right, I would print that off and take it to him!

p.s. No we have to do a full test for a retest, but as an incentive we give 7 Days free retest...

Well in the end I had to get the relay from the stealership since neither ECP or GSW could get the part quickly.

£37.50 later  I had indicators that flashed at the appropriate rate and the got the car back to the MOT station.

The ignorant tester didnt even bother checking the rate and just handed me my certificate with a grunt. I suspect afterall that I was right and they didnt have to flash less than 120 times per minute on a car registered before 1986 but neither the tester nor his boss confirmed this, they just gave me my test certificate FOC. :(

I also managed to find somewhere to top up with R12 refrigerant too so the aircon was working perfectly which was a godsend.

Given your early posts about this car, it's great to see that you got everything working and the car back to the UK. If you plan to keep it for any length of time, it will pay you to see if there is an alternative refrigerant to R12 for your air con system that will work without changing half the components. Because it contains CFC you stand virtually no chance of being able to buy R12 in this country.

re the aircon - drop this guy a line

his name is Mike, he's very knowledgeable and dirt cheap :) although you may have to meet him halfway as I'm not sure how far away from here he operates.

He did my aircon and has said refilling Annie's old R12 system with a CFC free gas would be no problem once we'd checked the system over.

Very nice looking car ....

you could always use it to do the odd wedding now & then and make it pay for its' upkeep ?

Yeah, She's lovely but the missus has been making noise about the cost of keeping such an impractical car. (its certainly not a daily driver)

I'll be creating another thread regarding what to do with it. Your wedding idea or something similar may just help to reduce the anual cost burden. :)

Here's a better picture of her lounging on the beach in full touring guise.
