Another weird/deviant one from me...

I want to link an old mobile phone with my landline, so that I can make calls from a third line (another mobile phone) to the old mobile phone, and then out of the landline... kind of like a proxy server.

Reason being, I have free international calls from my landline, free national calls from my normal mobile...

So, I would be able to make "free" international calls from my mobile, albeit routing it through my landline...

The only way I can think of doing it is an old voice-modem card, and somehow route calls coming in on the mic/speaker ports of the PC to activate the dialout feature...

Any ideas?

Or you could simply pick up your landline when you want to call abroad.

I don't have an extension cable long enough to follow me around the UK :p (or more importantly, on my drive to work... I spend 45 minutes every morning calling Ireland*... you can immagine my phone bill at the end of the month...)

(* Hands-free of course! I love my jawbone icon!)

Depending on who your actually calling, you could ask the party in Ireland to get themselves a UK skype-in number. It would allow you to call them at UK rates, but would of course tie them to a computer.

I'm calling another mobile... and I drive through areas that have poor signal for voice... and data at almost only GPRS rates... so skype2skype isn't ideal... not to mention that I really shouldn't be asking my clients to install things to save me money :p

Skypeout is quite expensive at 14.4p a minute - roughly as much as dialling direct from vodaphone at 15p a minute.

I found something that says it does the trick:
"FOLLOW ME GSM GATEWAY" (http://www.westlake.co.uk/Follow-me-GSM-Gateway.htm)

At £500 it's not cheap... but it would pay for itself in 4 months or so...

Problem is, I cannot find a single retailer that has it in stock... grumble...

Or you could just switch to a giffgaff account like i have, pay a tenner or so on a goody bag, and get VERY cheap calls. Just had a look you can get 1500 minutes & free texts & free internet for 25per month goody bag.

And if you recommend the network, which i do, (i switched from Virgin) you can get extra minutes.

Worth a look. (blatant heavy plug )
