Only on this site, it seems. If I click on a link, in the ebay section for example, it brings up a blank page. Anyone any ideas please?

it brings up a blank page.

Do links work ok on ALL other sites?
Does the old page remain and it just opens a new tab?
When you say "blank" is there anything shown, what does the title bar say?
If you right click anywhere in the blank area of the page and View Page Source - what does the HTML source show?
Which browser and Operating system are you running?

Hi Jon, and thanks for your reply.

"Do links work ok on ALL other sites?

On the few that I use, yes.

Does the old page remain and it just opens a new tab?

Yes

When you say "blank" is there anything shown, what does the title bar say?

The title bar says "About:blank". I've just looked on the 'damaged 124 cabriolet' thread in the ebay section, where EDZ649 posts a link. This again brings up a blank page.

If you right click anywhere in the blank area of the page and View Page Source - what does the HTML source show?

The original source shows <HTML></HTML>, with no text between the brackets, so this would appear to be the problem. If I right click on the link and select 'open', it opens the link (new discovery).

Which browser and Operating system are you running?

Windows 7 with Internet Explorer. Prior to the links not working, I used to get a pop up warning. Don't know if this helps?

Hi Mike
Do any of the following work?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk

/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330486291472&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D330486291472%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

Google

On the surface it either looks like a firewall issue, or possibly malware.. try running malwareBytes

Oh and just for info - that link for the damaged cabriolet takes you to Facebook first.. if you've blocked facebook that'll be why...

Hi Mike

The above link opens to a removed item in a new window

/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330486291472&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D330486291472%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

This link moves me from this page to an invalid address

Google

This link opens fine in a new window

Haven't taken this step yet

Something is odd, Jon, as I had a look at the cheap E55 thread, in the ebay section. Ollie's link opened in a new window fine, but when I clicked on TPWUK's link in post 3, it opened an 'about:blank' window again. After this, Ollie's link would no longer work, but when I open MBClub in a fresh window, Ollie's link works fine again.

Yup definitely sounds like some malware...particularly if it's intermittent, you could also try Chrome or Firefox..

Just done a malaware scan, and nothing found! I've opened and copied the link below from the MB owners club. It only seems ebay and autotrader links that don't open, and then only on this site!

1990 MERCEDES 190E AUTO SILVER on eBay (end time 31-Oct-10 16:05:46 GMT)

I've pasted the link here to see if I can open it after. Thanks for the help so far Jon.

The above link opens, but back to the ebay sectoin, and the link below in the "W210 2.6 Sportline" (sic) heading won't.

MERCEDES 190E 2.6 SPORTLINE LOW RESERVE !!!!! on eBay (end time 30-Oct-10 14:42:34 BST)

Edit. After to-ing and fro-ing between here and the ebay section, the above sportline^ link works here, but not in the ebay section, so I think the answer is in this forum within the ebay section?

Good news that there's no malware found! :)
I think you're right about the way that the forum redirects... I also think you should try a different browser, I use Chrome for example.

Thanks Jon. My needs are quite simple really, and prefer sticking with what I know. A bit peed of that Windows have changed my Live Mail to the 2011 version, tbh! Still curious about the ebay section though, and would be surprised if I'm the only one with this anomaly.

This one isn't working for me...correction: sometimes it does.. sometimes it doesn't.
The times it doesn't look like timeout issues - which means my route to the url is taking longer than it should.

ok here goes..
I've narrowed it down to the individual server at ebay, something slows me down when connecting to rover.ebay.com (which that listing points to), if this takes longer than the TCP timeout period then I get a blank page.

Thanks for resurrecting this query, Jon. I've just had a bit of a play in the testing section here. The forum software edits links that are posted in ebay, which open for my if I right click, and select open, otherwise, it's as I've stated.

Not for me it doesnt. I would say that it is more likely that your PC is changing the links at this point.

Looks like your browser is removing http:\ and trying to find the links locally on the mbclub server.

I think MD5 means if he copies an existing MBclub link it keeps the server path not just the destination path.

I've just done both in the testing thread to see.

I'm not sure I see what the problem is, shouldn't it copy the whole server path?

This is the retained part. Is that the post location?
