Little bits of rust......

Hi All,

My 2002 ML is starting to rust :-(

Usual places:

Rear wheel arches
Rear door, by the handle
little patch on the bonnet
Couple of patches on corner of bootlid and roof.

My question is this;

I am obviously better off sorting this out now. However, I don't want to stretch to a resplay (I was quoted at £700 for just the bits I need doing).

Does anyone have a good guide or method for just sorting out small rust patches?

i.e.
rub down patch
coat with a rust tratment
primer spray
colour spray

Thats what I tried, it really came back with a vengeance and I am now thinking about replacing the front wings ........ boot lid, rear wheel arches, front cross member ........ you have to ask yourself if it is really worth it ?
