Hi,

I have problem with the boot on a 2001 merc clk 320.

Everything was ok until last night when I went to get the shopping out (inc freezer stuff (& bag of ice)).

The boot will not open either with the key fob (it opens/locks the front doors and fuel flap ok) nor the interior remote switch (nothing at all there). Boot lock seized up (I did get metal (insert) key fully into lock but unable to turn - WD 40 sprayed fully into lock with red tube). I replaced the fuse under the bonnet (no. 7 - it didn't look blown but changed it anyway!). Rear seats in locked position.

Everything else on car works fine!

I searched the net and found that access could be gained through the first aid box, releasing the rear seats. This done, I got the shopping out.

TO THE PROBLEM !!!

I need to get the boot lid unlocked. (Can I unlock it from inside the boot?)

My Thoughts -- Possible fuse in boot - Please don't say use key in boot lock as like I say this is totaly stuck solid.

Thanks Gary

If the lock is seized and the buttons don't work there there is only one way to get in......

Hi, Thanks for quick responce to my problem. (I am new to this Forum) You ask me to PM you but unfortunatly I need to post 30 times before I can send PM's. If I give you an email address couldyou send it that way.

A common problem - which sometimes can be freed if you persist with WD-40 (or a decent penetrating oil) and wiggling the key. By persist I do mean persist, I became aware of this potential problem shortly after I got my C240, took me about 15 mins to free the lock up fully, and I now check it regularly, others have succeded after many attempts and leaving it to soak for long periods.

I apreciate your advice but I have being trying for 2 days and it is stuck solid.

Cheers Gary A

Just an idea would the AA, RAC or any other breakdown cover assist in opening the boot as they do for car doors.

Unfortunatly I don't have breakdown cover, but I don't think they would assist getting into the boot as the car isn't broke down and can be driven

Cheers Gary A

Have you tried hot kettle water on the lock?

Once the first aid box is out then with a series of extensions, you can remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the latch in place on the slam panel.

Pretty stick then! As you have access to the the boot check the vaccum tube that runs to the a boot lock (and trace it back). The lock is vaccum operated, so a damaged/disconnected tube = a problem like yours.

Tube 40 here is the one you want.

Hi,

I got it sorted, now the snow on top of snow has gone.

Answer was to get in the boot through the back seats - lift the floor to access the fuse box next to the battery - though none of the fuses were blown, I took out and put back in the fuses & hey presto boot now opens.

I think this is the time to remove the lock and ease it - or not lock back the rear seats (this might be easier!!)

Seems a stupid place to put a fuse for a boot release 'IN THE BOOT!!!!!!!!!!' But I suppose Mercedes will make a fortune from some people.

cheers Gary A

Boot locked CLK

Hi, please can you help. I was having problems with my windows on my 2000 CLK 320 Cabriolet so I disconnected my battery to reset them. Unfortunately I automatically closed the boot. When i tried to open the boot with the key, the key will not fit or work. It unlocks my drivers do but will not open the boot.

I have tried connecting jump leads but this doesn't give any power to the button. I am not able to use PM on this site as I am new. Would you be able to help before I have to drill the lock out?

My email address is [email protected]

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

Steve :doh::doh:
