Hi,

Does anyone know the best place to buy some locking wheel bolts for the old-style SLK 200. They need to have a thread length of only 20mm which seems to make them rather rare.
I have read bad things about the genuine mercedes bolts, so I was looking to source some RAD locking bolts which seem to be good quality.
I located some RAD bolts on the 'alloywheelsdirect.net' web site, but they did not have the type I need listed. They seem to have an odd policy of not allowing any potential customers to contact them as they feel it makes the 'inefficient' as a company, so much as I'd like to ask them - I can't!
Does anyone have any ideas on alternative sources for these bolts please (other than having them shipped from Germany or the U.S.)?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have some for the MB, right thread right radius on the seat but too long, could you cut them down?
They are new and sealed in the pkt, I take it you have steel wheels fitted?

Thanks for your reply Franey. Yes, I've got the steel wheels. Incidentally, I've just had the wheels refurbished by 'Pristine Wheels' in MK and they now look wonderful. No more horrible tarnishing to look at anymore.

Anyway, thanks for the info about your bolts. I was very tempted, but on reflection I think I'd prefer bolts which don't need to be cut as cutting through the surface coating might encourage them to rust.

Have a good weekend.:)

Steel wheels normally have a much lower risk of being nicked, which is probably why you're finding it hard to get anti-theft bolts.

When you reach a post count of 30 you can send a PM to member "Murray Systems" here - he is the owner of Alloy Wheels Direct. If bolts are available then they can probably get them for you.

Thanks for the info Nigel, but the link you've given me is to the site where they don't allow you to contact them. Their products look good, but they will only speak to you AFTER you have bought from them. I have sold thousands of items via ebay, so have quite a lot of experience with sales, but I have never ever found a company which does not want to talk to potential customers - bizarre!

Thanks for your two posts Bill. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure whether they are steel or some sort of alloy. They were chrome plated originally. All I know is that they are one of the cheaper wheels that MB put on their cars (as mine is an SLK 200, nothing exotic!). Now that they have been refurbished they certainly look worth nicking!

I'm sure I'll get something suitable eventually, so thanks all for your help.

I currently have none on mine....went to GSF, HALFORDS and a few independent shops and no luck so had to order them £25 not too bad....they seemed like the only ones that were notin stock...

Trust me, his bolts are fantastic.. All of my cars have wheels held on with his RAD bolts and locking bolts.

I dont think its Chris's only profession so doesnt advertise his phone number but his service is great...

Jaymanek,

Thanks for your message. I don't doubt for one moment that his products are great, but I think you are missing the point. His site does not list the exact product I need and does not allow PHONE, or EMAIL or even a WEB FORM to ask a question about whether a product is available or not. I can't give the man my money if he won't give me any way to give it to him! Looks like I'm just gonna have to go down the MB dealer on monday and buy the 'official' product.

Thanks for all your suggestions anyway.

Your right blowed if I can find any contact details.
It used to have a phone number and an email address, but I'll be jiggered if I can see it now

Just found an old thread and PM'd Murray Systems to contact you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it was odd. I searched high and low, but no contact details were in sight. :dk:

Nigel, that's very kind of you. Thanks very much. :thumb:

Hi!
It would seem very strange! I'll explain:
800-1000 unique users per day look at my site
95% of the orders on the site come from customers who don't have any previous contact
90% of emails are questions that are already answered somewhere on the site, the other 10% for items I don't sell.
The products are low margin (mostly 10%)
I decided to trial cutting down the enquiries - first month without a phone number was a record month for sales (record high!)
Since removing the email address there have been fewer sales (seasonal lull contributes) but the operational side of the business can be managed in less than an hour a day, leaving enough time to rebuild the business systems in a more scalable way.
I think the email address will be put back on the site, but enquiries will be answered in a more efficient way to before.

I just didn't want to wake up 5 years from now awaiting another day of 30 minute phonecalls with people asking about the diameter of a centre cap and if my products were genuine.
What would you do?

Hi,
Thanks for your explanation. I can certainly see your quandry. The big question is how much business are you missing out on by removing the contact details? I guess a trial was the only way you'd find out, so was probably worth doing. All I know is that it has been incredibly frustrating as a member of the public, but I certainly understand your motives now.

This message was welcome, but a bit cryptic. I'll assume that this means that you don't sell them yourself, but that this is the MB reference number I will need to source them. Thanks very much for this info as it will prevent me ending up with the wrong bolts. All the best with your business. It sounds like it's doing pretty well!:)

Hi Murry systems,

I need to order a set via your web but am unsure of which looking nuts? they are for a CL55 AMG 2001 with 20" Brabus alloys (285's on rear and 245's on the front) can you let me know which ones I need..

Regards Danny

Hi Danny
I'll need part numbers from the wheels plus the width of the adapters being used on front/rear. I can then give you the Mercedes part number for the locks required.
Chris

Hi Chris,

New to this, how do I find the part number for the wheels? the adapters you are asking about, is this the same as the spacers?

regards danny
