London Bus Drivers - Dangerous.

There will be no bus drivers left if we all complained..Oh hang on, then we won't be held up by them, the traffic will flow better, rush hour won't exist as buses won't be clogging up the roads, there won't be an empty lane on all major roads with the odd bus in it...EVERYONE COMPLAIN QUICK!!!!

Buses do not have a "right of way". The Highway Code says:

223
Buses, coaches and trams. Give priority to these vehicles when you can do so safely, especially when they signal to pull away from stops. Look out for people getting off a bus or tram and crossing the road.

Overtaking a bus at a stop is fine. If, however, you begin the manoeuvre after the bus has signalled to leave the stop then you are wrong but otherwise (as in the original post) the duty of the bus driver is as all of us, mirror, signal and then manoeuvre if safe to so so.

Hence the quotation and exclamation marks ... :)

In reality, when faced with a 7 ton double decker bus, it pretty much has "right of way"!!

Yeah right....If you do complain, the driver will probably get 6 months paid leave due to the stress of a complaint and then another 6 months of free counselling lol

Yeah suppose so. Welcome to England. I'm sure his trade union would milk us of every possible penny. In that case, execution would be the cheapest and most sensible option.

From jungle/desert camel to London as a bus driver ... speechless indeed

I was about to post that. There's no such thing as "right of way". :)

I thought that cyclists had automatic right or way everywhere, through red lights, the wrong way up one way streets, across pavements and much, much more......

.....but maybe I'm wrong....... or my eyes deceive me

Yeah well all that of course but my point was that 10 ton or so of bus pulling out on you when you're fully committed, half way past the bus with other traffic following isn't exactly fun and isn't actually necessary - HGV's don't drive this way.

HGVs don't have to pul in, stop and then pull out into traffic again every 300yds.

Still no excuse in the OP

if you pay peanuts you tend to get monkeys...

Are you insinuating they're a bunch of organ grinders? :D

on another though have u seen how 2 buses coming on opposite sides do not give way yo each other causing endless accidents to parked cars and themselves, i tip for all of u if u suspect your car was touched by a bus complain to depot sometimes they keep log in the depot they touched a car, other times u can argue because of the colours left on your car, we had our roads so many car touched by buses in the way we watch out whenever there is chance so that we can details of the bus so we can give to the owner, i understand if a bus driver do three accidents they get thrown out that is way the do not report it

but it also feel the bus drivers cannot drive a vw beetle nevermind a bus, they are put on crash course and thrown on the road to learn by bumping our cars, we have requested from our mp and local council to allow pathway parking just so our cars will not be hit by the buses.

u can fight back

From 10 years ago when I moved into the area. up until 3 years ago me and my neighbours were fed up of buses scraping the sides of our cars so we half-parked on the pavement.

One day the nice council decided to cash in and started issuing tickets for parking violations for those that were parked on the pavement.. I was lucky I never got one because I was out that day.. but I was warned not to park like that anymore.

I completely agree, of all the places Ive been in this country, London bus drivers are the worst by a long shot. Even worse then the average Volvo driver...

I think buses now have the right of way & if there's an accident the drivers know the burden of proof will always be on the car driver to prove it wasn't their fault.

My experience with London bus drivers has taught me that if you do not signal when overtaking one at a bus stop they will just pull out, even if you are on top of them. If you signal, they'll let you pass.

Your guy must have been having an off day.

Agreed 100%.

Yes, having the right of way is fine. But when someone has indicated and has already half overtaken, buses do not have a right of way to pull out into your path.

Yes, but very difficult to prove unless you have video footage of the incident... if you are caught in a crash next to a bus pulling out of a bus stop you will be automatically at fault. The bus passengers will not make good witnesses because would not have been able to see the indocators.

Serious question.

How many of you complaining have a PSV?

I used to drive a motorway recovery truck, we had the police contract, vehicle was basically the same size as a fire engine.

Got totally sick of arrogant assholes who;

  1. Couldn't park within 9 inches of the kerb.
  2. Had to park EXACTLY OPPOSITE another car 9 inches out from the kerb, with the rest of the road on both sides empty.
  3. Parked on corners right in your minimum turning radius.
  4. Parked in no parking - turning areas at the end of close's or dead ends.
within 3 months I'd become like the other drivers, don't care if it's 3 am, sit on the air horns till they come out, then tell them to move the car or you'll call the police, who will authorise a recovery (us, we had the contract) / removal of their vehicle.

After a similar horrific experience, a mate at work whose partner recruits to Bus companies told me:
"Up till 2008, they were begging for bus drivers and were not able to be selective.
Consequently, some very bad folks who previously wouldn't have any chance of being enrolled became bus drivers without any problem.
With the recession, the quality is improving as they are gradually replacing those appalling drivers.”
One of the very few positive points about an economic downturn.
