The thread on Patrick Moore and the moon landings (or not) have reminded me that tonight is the peak for the Geminids meteor shower.

Should be good viewing conditions (as long as the sky is reasonably clear) as the moon will still be quite dark.

Radiant is around Castor, and from midnight it'll be quite high in the sky. No special equipment needed, apart from a comfy chair, warm clothes and a hot drink. Rate is somewhere between 50 and 100 meteors per hour, so even popping out for 30 mins should yield something.

The BBC have a good page and map here.

I hope to be looking skywards this evening but I won't be hoping for a Geminids meteor shower.

My thoughts will be on another type of shower.

Should be good viewing conditions as long as the light stays on.

No special equipment needed apart from a comfy chair and a stiff drink.

I wouldn't like to comment on the flow rate.
