Keep us posted with your progress... which I'm sure you would anyways ;)

adopts deep west country accent

' Har Harrrrrrrgh me hearties ...... That I will..... that i will '

Now they look nice Howard-Wish my postman was as generous! Are they to be built into a sealed box, ported box or are they free-air subs?

nice one Howard! going old skool all the way

Gotta be old skool ..... :bannana:

Alps any idea on box dimensions for these or are they free-air ?

TS-W301's  and at a tenner each (brand new) ..... god knows what they cost originally ...

The newer Pioneer TS-W301R's are for either for a ported or sealed box, but I couldnt find out much about your model on the net.

Hi howard,

I`ll see what I can find at home tonight, as I think I might still have the original brochure with reccommended box sizes in it, otherwise i may ask you for some specs and use one of my designer programs to make one for you!

as reflexboy says, ported or sealed box. Sealed box would work best in a saloon type with a fairly sealed boots! Ive tried both ported and sealed enclosures in the C-class, and the sealed seems to work best, I think it would be the same for the "whale".

i`ll let you know when I have more info

I just checked the specs in the box ... they are meant to be free air mounted .... hmmmmm ...... not what i had planned .....

Anyway, heres what i have spent this afternoon making ...

The first of two custom boxes (they fit in behind the wheelarch on a w124 between the arch and the rear lights ) don't worry about all the white glue all over it, it is going to be covered with carpet soon :) , being a free air design means i am going to have to basically put a few big ports on the back side of it

I was going to get just a normal wedge shaped box made but then thought 'lets do something a bit special, everyone has wedges ....'

Just gotta cut out the hole and fit some binding posts ..... Maplin here we come ...

Only made 1 so far .... just after i finished i thought ' ooops , should have copied the dimensions down' now i've gotta measure up again for the 2nd one !!

EDIT :- cheers Alps and Reflexboy ....

EDIT 2 :- See the red mark next to the word 'cut' thats blood from the saw......

nice work so far howard, looking good so far!

Looking very nice indeed. Certainly less messy than the job I've got ahead of me (fibreglassing an enclosure back to match the inside of the boot)

I'm having terrible trouble getting sounds out my Merc, I'm on the point of chopping up the metal in the rear shelf and mounting a couple of 10s inside the car on the rear shelf.

We've tried 4x15s and even that isn't overly loud with the boot shut, just seems to rattle the hell out of everything in the car.

good luck with the sub box building.

Fibreglassing is just miserable.... i don't envy you ! :(

david - have you tried the age old trick of putting a port under where the first aid kit lives , under the flap, no one will see it ...it could be up to 8 inches across depending on how daring you are .....

Had a 7 inch hole on the Brabus back shelf. The sound was awesome, and i only had a Diamond Audio TDX 12 sub!

I removed the rear speakers and foam caps from the four holes in the rear shelf, mounted a pair of 8" 3 way pioneers in an mdf shelf bolted to the underside of the rear shelf so the speakers fire up through the existing holes driven by a Kenwood 150 watts rms amp and shoved in another of the same amp in bridged mode for my 12" Kenwood sub in Kenwood ported box...sounds good to me.

Yup...at least I've got a fair bit of practice in...misspent youth helping a friend build fairings for his LCR chassis. Now let's see how much I've forgotten!

On the C250 there are twin identical holes for the rear speaker mounts, the redundant ones were filled with foam bungs. Once removed the sound transfer improved, but then I'm only running a single 10".

David, let me know if you want to hear mine, I basically left the rears out totally, and put some 4" speakers on the rear door. On 2x12`s, it sounds pretty good.

you`ll never get the sound from a sub in a saloon, like you would in a hatchback tho!

If you have the optional ski-hatch, or if you don't mind cutting into the floorpan then you could do what Koolvin did:
