Hi guys, I used to be on here a couple of years back. I have owned an E46 M3 since and am now on a MK5 Golf R32. I am looking at a comeback though. I have spotted this CLK55 AMG: 2003 MERCEDES-BENZ CLK55 Tip

Does it look like a fair price? Anything I should look out for?

Also, if anyone reading has one that may be after an R32, give me a shout:thumb:

Any feedback on these cars would be great!

I've had my CLK55 amg since July 2003 from new and loved every minute of it except the bills. (Tyres, tyres and more tyres).

Was looking at a clk55amg before settling on a clk320 cab, looking at the add on the link there's no mention of service history & for the price they're asking i would want full mb history + all mot's which can help verify the mileage, good luck it's a fantastic car!

Ueah I checked with them it has a full MB history.

Hi

I managed to find a nice, tidy, 2 owner W208, 2000 model, 42,000 miles with full MB history and very good spec. in August this year.

Fuel costs, fuel costs and eh... fuel costs aside - absolutely brilliant!!!!!

Easy going most times then - whoosh. Everyone who knows them will know exactly what I mean.

From the pics it looks like it has keyless go... small button on door handles and button gear knob.... also see if it has television when you view it.. even though this is an expensive useless option in some people eyes, its a handy option when stuck in trafiic... looks like a genuine car... I personally think its a tad heavy on the money more like a 13k car.... saying that if it looks as good as it sounds... its looks very good.
Having had both a CLK500 and now the CLK55... the 55 is worlds apart from the 500 in many ways.....
Enjoy..

Hi Terry,

Have you seen this car in the flesh yet?

Loads of the AMG's i've been viewing are nothing like you expect. I viewed a 55 W209 yesterday which had a:

Full MBSH (nope)

Immacluate body (Nope)

Stunning condition

(apart from kerbed wheels; damaged tyres; failing orthopaedic functions; seat belt arms and climate control) i stopped looking any further.....

This one was a lot more than the car in the link (which looks well priced for the mileage)

As ever buy on condition, condition condition.

I'd expect to be dissapointed a few times especially if your travellling a long distance to view. (Apologies if this sounds a bit cynical).

Happy to help a fellow Scot if i see anything decent down here.

Not seen the car yet!

What is the typical day to day driving MPG wise on these cars, I am not one of these guys who wants a fast car and wants MPG in 30+. I just don't really want anything worse than the R32 which is pretty bad in my eyes for a modern car with only 250BHP. Will it be around the same as the R and my M3, I can average when I dont gun it around 25MPG.

My average MPG is about 18. On motorways I can get 24 and in town about 15.

When I collected my car and ran it up home from Surrey I managed 27mpg mainly 80-90 on motorway with the odd burst a wee bit faster and finally a quick 1/2 hour on a B road from A74 to home.

Since then always early 20's at best i'm afraid. (Well, not that afraid really, it's worth it.......)

Agreed, you're not going to get 25MPG+ combined.

Around town and for short journies, you're looking at mid-high teens. Careful driving overall sees about 20mpg if you're lucky

Normal driving on longer 20-30 mile journies (again with a restrained foot) you'll see low-mid 20s and probably high 20s/close to 30MPG on a very sensible motorway cruise.

I guess overall for all journies about it's about 20ish.

Not taking the proverbial but you just don't buy a 5.4 litre V8 car for reasons of economy! :o

I know this, thats why I stated that before. I just wondered if it was going to be way worse than my M3 or my R32, wich to be honest it looks the same, but hopefully far more fun!

To be honest, CLK55s are good cars - very powerful and quite quick. But I'm not sure if it'll be as fun as your R32 or the M3.

They're crusiers with a good turn of speed, plenty of overtaking ability etc. But the engines are very quiet and they don't really feel fast as they simply waft through the auto gearbox. You really need to look at the speedo to realise you're going a fair bit faster than you realise :o

If you like the look of a CLK and want one with more power than most other cars then a '55 is a great choice. You do get to hear a bit of V8 sound under heavy throttle but otherwise it's just like driving any other CLK IMHO.

Has anyone on the forum gone down the eisenmann/kleemann route with a CLK55?

Car looks nice, but agree everything that has been said. History and provenance should be nigh on perfect with no excuses from the dealer. I think the W209 '55 would be a better, more modern car than the W208 car. Not sure about price, they seem to be all over the place, but condition is all.

22mpg average here. 27 on a smooth motorway run. <20 round town.

As for having fun - I'll report back after my track day next Saturday :)

I've had my CLK55 for a week and am getting 15mpg... I have owned loads of cars and this is by far my favourite. Every time I get in it puts a massive smile on my face!!
It looks so good and the sound wow, I might record it and play it on loop through my stereo ..LOL
