CLC 220CDI
Hi i have a C Class CLC 220 CDI at present and i'm going to look at a 12 month old C Class Coupe 220CDI AMG at a dealers at the weekend.
The car is an Ex Demo, fully loaded and has 6k on the clock.
Only downfall i can see is its Fire Opal Red?
Or is this really a problem?
I remember red cars fading and if i buy this i want to keep it around 6-7 years at least.
How do you all rate the car and any things i should be concerned about i.e. colour?

I cant help you with any views on the 220CDI (as I am one of those very weird people who bought a 250 petrol..) but the Coupe is a great car, reasonably sporting but a very sensible comfortable and quiet place to be when you want to. Add in the massive (for a coupe) boot and plenty of space for 2 adults in the back.

As for colour, go for it, nothing to worry about with red. The car looks good in that colour and keeping it until is it 7-8 years old will mean its irrelevant when you come to sell

Decades ago someone like the AA did a study on "which colour car is safest?" and red came out top as it always appears to be closer to you than it actually is - so people take fewer chances pulling out in front of you. Dad had a red Mk1 Cortina GT at the time, so we were quite chuffed!

I had Guards Red Porsche 944/968 for many years, the early 944 paint faded badly, but my 1994 968 was pretty good - did not fade (and I had her for 12 1/2 years!) but did get slightly purple - which I discovered when I finally got the detailing bug and clayed then mopped her. She came back to showroom new quite easily.

I personally think 204 C's look good in red - ours is Carneol Red, which is a metallic burgundy, but I've seen one in Fire Opal and was quite taken by it. I'd say go for it - and in the supermarket car park you will see it easily rather than wondering which silver or black MB is yours!! Just make sure the dealer updates the satnav - the car still has 2 years of free updates - and gives you a 1 year tier 1 MB warranty.

Cheers lads gonna look at it tomorrow and one thing I have been told is to check it has the up to date software on the dash that goes red when your in comfort mode? Also that the indicator stem and cruise control stem are the other way round as the early cars people were accidentally flicking the cruise control instead of the indicators?

On my pre-facelift 204 the indicator stem is the front one and longer than the cruise control stem behind it - in 2 1/2 years I've never hit the cruise instead of the indicator! I nearly always drive in C rather than S, the only time I've seen the dash go red was when the TPMS detected I'd changed from summer to winter wheels or vice versa - they're slightly different sizes, 7 1/2J 225/50 R16 winters and 7J 205/55 R16 summers.

Just been and bought the car!
Had a good deal as it's end of the month!
Knocked the Dealer down from £29k to £22k and a new set of tyres fitted!

The safest colour is White with fluorescent stripes and blue lights on the roof

I have a saloon c220cdi, had it for just under a year and still love it. You have to be prepared for the (unusually nowadays) gruff engine note especially under hard acceleration and the fact that every so often it sounds like an old school petrol engine in serious need if tappet adjustment. But it does pull well, rides really well, has a great interior and looks the part.

Hope you enjoy it, had Fire Opal estate for 2 years now and I think it's by far the best colour, clean bird ****e off immediately though or it will mark!
