Hi,i don't or haven't owned one but i did test drive & research them before settling on my cls500,full(pref mb if not specialist)history is essential,atf/filter changes every 40k miles, airmatic suspension should work in a few seconds on all settings, make sure there are no faults showing on the dash-they're great cars both for motorway cruising & having some fun:cool:

Ask him to get prices to b service it, change the plugs and the poly belt. If he still wants one after that he should get the nicest one he can find, the suspension on these isn't "very" pricey like ABC but he must check all the electrics.
I had one for 2 years and nothing major went wrong.

is the b-service really expensive or something? he will be looking to keep one for about 12 to 18 months..........

Depends how many miles and if it needs sparkies and brake fluid change.

An indie is cheaper but he needs to know running costs

he will probably do about 15k in that time

hi,
as has been said above, service history is important, make sure the car has been looked after, the spark plugs need changing every 63k miles and are expensive, about £1000.
Make sure there are no oil leaks and everything works.
They are fantastic cars, comfy quick and sound gorgeous, i wouldnt swap mine for anything short of an SLS
Hope he gets a good one

Hi mer190,
Great choice with the CLS 55, I'm notorious for changing my car regularly but since I've had mine I've found that It's ticked so many of the boxes finding a replacement for the money is very tricky indeed!

From my experience thus far, as others have mentioned, certain service items are rather expensive to replace depending on mileage/ service schedule and main dealer/ Indie. Personally I always use main dealer and as such my last service in December was the 35k mile mark which entails a major service, poly V belt change and the brake fluid change. The brake fluid change came to nearly £400 alone. The total service came in at over £900.

Another thing you need to check when buying is the tracking of the steering and any vibration of the wheel at speeds of up to 70mph. I’ve recently had my vibration diagnosed after trying several methods (four wheel balancing & laser alignment) to a worn poly bush. It's also having a traction control sensor replaced at the same time. I have read in other threads that the alloys occasionally have a tendency to buckle.
My post may read quite negatively but I’m sure you don’t expect to run the car on a shoestring in any case.

Most importantly buy one and listen to the noise! :thumb:

£1000 for 16 spark plug change is way way too much .. should not be more than £300.

^ Yep-£299 on my last B service in December.

If he buys the car from a dealer get him to ask for the car to be serviced( if it hasn't had a recent one),if he's only going to do about 15k in upto 18 mths then it will only just be due a service when he wants to shift it;).
