Hi all,

I currently have a BMW M135 as my daily drive and a Porsche 997 Turbo as a weekend car. The BMW has been great, given that until recently I've done a relatively high mileage and it offered fun at a reasonable cost. My circumstances have changed and I no longer need a practical daily, and I'm thinking of buying a W205 C63, using the 911 to fund most if not all of the price. (I'll hand the PCP BMW back).

I had a test drive in a 2017 car earlier and was impressed by it, although it seemed to be lacking optional extras. The same dealer has a late 2016 car at a different site, which has the premium pack on it and is a couple of grand cheaper and has a slightly lower mileage. My questions are;

Is the upgraded (Burmester) sound worth hanging on for?
Do sunroofs squeak or cause any problems?
Is there anything else on the Premium pack and will it add value when I come to trade it in?

The car I saw today had the black ash interior (which I liked), whereas the other one is gloss black. The salesman said that the gloss scratches relatively easily - is that the case?

Are there any other things which I should look out for and do you have any other tips for me - unleaded v super, tyres etc.

Thanks in advance

Burmaster is worth it if your are an audiophile and can tell a massive difference to sound quality. I have ash Wood and no it doesn't scratch easy, my large dog often steps on it. I don't think a c63 is a good idea as daily driver unless you don't mind the petrol. Newer models have better mpg due to smaller engine and high compression but city traffic will kill you. My other problem with the c63 is high depreciation [emoji12]

The gloss black interior is prone to scratching, the black ash is more resilient.

From what I've read, ( Upgrading The W205 Burmester Audio) there are no Burmester components in the 'Burmester' audio, but it sounds pretty good to me and is better than the Audio 20 version. The speakers are apparently identical units to those fitted as part of the Harden Kardon systems that were in the previous C-Class.

The W205 (except the SE version) come with high performance LED headlights as standard and they are as good or better than Xenon. Adaptive LED headlights are an option that some seem to rate quite highly. I didn't like the adaptive 'beam assist' xenon headlights on our C204, but again from what I've read the new LED system is much better.

Sorry ignore my burmaster audio comment, I just assumed you get burmaster standard vs burmaster 3d just like j s/cl class. Definitely better than audio 20

I don't think Burmester has been standard issue in a C63.

Currently I think it's included with Premium Plus.

This brochure is for pre facelift cars:

It looks like Burmester may have included with Premium, but it's not clear.

I believe it's branded Burmester as they did the acoustic tuning but it's not using their speakers.
... or any other Burmester hardware apparently. Which to be honest is no surprise given the cost of Burmester audio equipment.

Must haves:
- Burmester yes: stunning sound stage
- Ash Wood yes: black plastic is too pc world.

Other extras:
- If you get the estate the twin roof is stunning but std on the prem plus.

0A9E91B0-3FF2-4179-9CA6-5C279F5BD786.png This is what’s included in the premium pack pre facelift. There was no such thing as a premium plus. Personally I wouldn’t look at anything without the premium pack. The sunroof and sound system being the most important for me, but mine is a wagon. I have the gloss carbon interior with the red/black seats but I thinks that’s personal choice as dislike all black leather for some reason. I don’t find an issue with scratches.
I wanted the 360 camera but was willing to compromise on that so ended without. However it’s a nice feature if you find one.

As others have written...
Tyres/rubber Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S for when warmer weather arrives. Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 for cooler weather.
Performance exhaust or your money back. Performance seats if you can take them, else the regular seats are fine.
HUD is a nice to have along with Distronic. Burmester sound is a must, even if all you listen to is yourself. 360 degree
camera comes in very handy for those tight spots. Avoid the black gloss like the plague. Carbon or wood are much
better. You'll probably have squeaks, not necessarily from the sun roof. Don't get it in black, that's very hard to keep clean.

HTH

OK, so deal done and I pick the car up tomorrow. A silver C63 saloon with the Premium pack and 11k miles. I've chopped the 911 in as part of the deal and will be handing the 135 back to BMW.
I did look at a black car without the extras but decided that come a future trade in, the difference may well be worth it. Only thing which I'd have rather had was the ash interior (mine has gloss).
Looking forward to it.....

Thanks all for your help and advice

I'd rather keep the 997 Turbo. I guess if you want something newer and that's sensibly fast, the C63 is a good choice but you're also buying depreciation and running costs rather than just running costs with your 997.

It was a tough call and I'm sure you are correct re depreciation, but the turbo was 13 years old and I suspect that at that age things start to wear out, over and above the normal consumables. It was never going to be a daily (with 83k miles) driver and the tech is SO outdated, that I am sure that I've done the right thing.

I picked the C63 up yesterday and absolutely love it - the noise. I'll have a couple of weeks to get to know it and will post a better comparison of the 2

"Is the upgraded (Burmester) sound worth hanging on for?"

No, not in my opinion!
I have recently just purchased a W205 C63 (2015 in white with a fair few options) and I specifically wanted Burmester Audio as my previous car was Logic 7 Harmon Kardon and in my opinion there is no comparison to the HK Audio system.
As others have stated, unbeknown to me the speakers are the same and Burmester have played with the settings basically but I find them tinny when up loud in the mid range, something I didnt experience in my previous car

However, one other thing I would totally recommend is Keyless Go. I wouldn't be without that and coming from a BMW you would be in the same boat as me. Personally going back to a key would be painful as I am so used to keyless.

I can't comment on the Sunroof myself as I have had my car barely 2 weeks but thus far no issues with it, even managed to have it open this week, that was nice!

Lastly, something I wouldn't say is necessary but a very nice addition (bonus on mine as it wasn't in the advert) is Head Up Display
Seeing the MPH and Speed Limit on the windscreen is very handy in this car lol

The keyless go is great (my BMW has a button you press to open the doors) but having parked and locked it on the first day, I must have gone back to it three times to check it was locked, only to unlock it when I touched the handle - DOH!!

Haha

Yeh I must admit I did the same but after a few days you are used to just tapping the handle and looking out for the wing mirrors to fold

How many tanks have you been through? lol
