Agreed. personally I'm averse to buying a car from a private seller unless I'm comfortable I can return it if it's got some serious issues at that price point.
The most recent car I bought had full service history blah blah mainly merc dealer blah blah and the previous owner also owns a ferrari blah blah and has spared no expense ( the dealer just check mated himself there ) , turns out it has quite a few bits that need doing and is going back to the dealer. I'd be tempted to buy from a dealer with 5star reputation (which can't afford a 1 star review ) unless your private seller seems like a guy with tip top integrity.
Have you had a test drive yet ?
And yes he was asking for strong money before so I'm not surprised it didn't sell at that mileage of 55+k
