Hi.
I bought a 2006 sprinter 313 cdi XLWB it’s done 140k.
I have an issue with it being down on power, also it has a strong smell of either sulfur or burning fuel.
I had to replace an actuator as it was one from a Vito, the previous owner spent a bit of money changing a turbo, and a few sensors.
When I took the old actuator off and drove the van a small distance the power was back.
however I did notice an awful amount of black smoke and then back to the loss of power.
My thoughts are the injectors need replacing, but I’m not 100% sure and neither are a few “mechanics”.
The van struggles to start. The battery light is on the dash although the battery has been replaced. Also the glow plug indicator comes on for a moment before turning off.
I’m not sure if it could be a DPF issue.
I hope someone might have an answer for me!
Thanks.

The sulphur smell points to the catalytic convertor. Possibly blocked.

First off, you need to do a scan interrogation in both in live date & code recordings with both active and stored. In KOEO and KOER
Publish that on this forum and I might be able to help.
On this side we fix on average 4 errant Sprinters daily.

Yeah, I don’t have access to that software, nor can I afford to, it’s been plugged in before and I fixed the issues it showed. The van was still behaving the same way. The clips on the top of the injectors have all been broken, which makes me think someone’s had a go and bodged it, or put the wrong ones in.

Well the simple answer is to get a specialist shop to do a scan diagnosis for you giving them the instructions I have mentioned and report key finding as a publication on this forum.
In the UK a scan diagnosis and mechanic tech labor charges are cheap by US standards.
And you won't have to shell out big bucks for a tool ,
AND any bodging or botched areas will be revealed in live data in KOEO or KOER.
