Lost CD/DVD Drive from Laptop

As the title says the CD/DVD drive on my laptop has "disappeared" when I open Windows Explorer. It only shows the hard drives.

I am running Windows Vista and any help offered will have to be in simple language as I am a simple person.

When I go to the Device Manager and select properties of the drive I get this screen...........



If I click on "Check for Solutions" nothing happens. If I click on Download latest Driver it just says Most Recent driver installed.

Is this an easy problem to solve or do I have to employ the service of a spotty 12 year old?

Suggest removing it in device manager and then scan for new devices again to see if windows correctly installs the driver for it again.
