A couple of weeks ago whilst dropping my 6 year old of School I took a thorough roasting from a particular Teacher for using "Homophobic language" - My crime describing myself as a "wooly woofter". Despite being being belittled in front of all the other Parents and generally spoken to like a P.O.S, I let it slide for my Daughters sake. I've been accused of many things in my life but never once Homophobic ! Is Wooly Woofter a offensive term - especially describing yourself ?????

Anyway forward to yesterday. My Daughters best friend asked the same teacher if he could have his inhaler during class and she didn't give it to him as she was too busy resulting in him getting very distressed.

When the Parents bought the matter up, the teacher replied "I didn't want to M O N G him out" !!!!!!!!!

You literally couldn't make it up !

Where I come from, describing yourself as a "wooly woofter" implies you are a poofter, a homosexual.
Given you said it at a school wasn't the brightest decision you made whether in jest or not. Whether you are , or not, is of no concern to me, but saying that at school?

New school required.

You don't want your infant to grow up as infantile as that waste of skin and bones teaching them do you?

Krap teachers give teachers a bad name. Just like the inappropriate application that elf and safety rules do

You big puff:devil:

The standard of some of today's teachers makes me glad my daughter has finished her education. Only ever had one issue with my daughter at school and then the head go short shrift.

You showed far more restraint than I would have done as I would have verbally taken the teacher apart if he had spoken to me like that.

Things said in jest these days get taken to heart by the PC brigade and do gooders and we wonder why we have issues in this country.

In my day at one of the roughest schools in Yorkshire you frequently heard the phrase "toughen up princess" maybe we would fair better if we gave today's teachers the same advice?

and the word M O N G from a teacher?

I didn't realise you were a big girls blouse!!!!:D

M O N G is bad...but depriving said child of, possibly, a life saving inhaler is beyond the Pale.

I do appreciate that woofter can be taken as poofter - but wooley woofter is more along the lines of big girls blouse IMO - a more appropriate response would have been to take me to one side and say its not acceptable language than shouting it out with screaming indignation especially as nobody else would have heard me say it. I'm a big boy so had forgotten about it really. Its the hypocrisy that got me.

I've called plenty of people "Gareth Hunt" (if you get my drift !) but I have never used the word m o n g ever, I really cannot think of anything more offensive. Even the Wife who is pretty unshockable was taken aback

I think you will find that this teacher will have a history of similar incidents. BH's grand daughter is 5 and you would not believe some of the stuff her mother has had to deal with at the school. You honestly could not make it up. I am afraid I would have had an immediate"special" talk with that teacher. Having said that I do have sympathy with what teachers have to put up with as well.

There was probably more to the inhaler incident than I know about (reading between the lines) but no matter what if I was a person in charge of a child I would have jumped to it

You should have Rab C Nesbitted her....gave her the malky......

...amazing how it'd alter her opinion.....

^ Yes huge responsibility on a teacher withholding medication and probably a safeguarding issue in other institutions. As you say probably more to it , but I think you will find that teachers are no longer allowed to be involved with children's medication nowadays anyway. The fact that this story has reached your ears suggests that teacher has perhaps a reputation.(deserved or otherwise)

I must admit though I am a bit sensitive about it at the mo because the other day I saw a advert on the telly for a program about child models and I did make a comment to the wife about a not very photogenic child (and the pushy parents) and then when we caught a bit of the program it turned out the child had downs and how wrong could we be ! She was absolutely lovely, so proper guilt from us !

As a teacher, I would have to say that the behaviour of the teacher described is wholly inappropriate and would recommend a word with their headteacher.

This is particularly important with regards to the inhaler incident, as that situation could rapidly deteriorate into a medical emergency and there have been cases of children dying due to inaction on the school's behalf. It is completely unacceptable to deny a child access to their inhaler, let alone the comments subsequently mentioned.

If I was that teacher's senior leader, I would be making them apologise to all parties concerned and seeing that they receive further training in first-aid.

I stopped believing that teachers were anything special about the same time as I got wise of the father Christmas thing.

Sweeping generalization anyone?

Unfortunately there are a few problems here. OFSTED that fantastic body!! Will ( and I can point you towards reports ) fail schools due to homophobic remarks not being addressed by staff).
So when you made your homophobic remark and whether people want to trivialise it as do gooders jumping on the band wagon, or that its acceptable round here... it is homophobic and should be challenged.
But IMHO it's how she challenged you - a simple whisper of "thats not really appropriate" would have sufficed as you obviously weren't meaning to offend, didn't mean to hurt anyone and everyone says something wrong now again. Have you ever seen the West End Show Avenue Q - two of the best songs are "everyones a little bit racist sometimes" and "the Internets for porn".

As for the inhaler - not an appropriate phrase and again - needs to be challenged.
