Loud click type noise

I have just been reading threads where MB dealers have said something needed replaced and subsequent the Indy said it didn't and it was some other minor issue. My MB dealer said that i need to replace the front offside spring control arm and and transverse control arm

The front passenger side of my car makes a loud click type sound when I turn the wheel and drive off - this is normally at low speeds and when the wheel is nearly in full lock.

Would the offside spring control arm and and transverse control arm cause this noise? or could it be a joint?

Thanks

Bottom ball joint on the hub which attaches the spring control arm does perish and can cause the click (quite loud). I had similar symptoms. The bottom balljoint is sold on its own and costs approx £30 from main dealer. Also check the balljoint of the lower thrust arm (where it bolts onto the hub), the balljoint on this arm is only available as part of the complete arm.

When the balljoint directly under the strut perishes it makes a squeaking sound when you raise and lower your car.

Yes mine makes a really loud click -even loud enough that people walking by have turned back to see!

Is the balljoint that u replaced the one noted as '10' on the attached image?

Yes I changed number 10 (balljoint) and also the part number 60 (the balljoint is not available separately for this arm). After changing the clicking was gone. Part 60 is available from ECP and use the mbclub discount code and also part 10 is available from ECP too. Both are reasonably priced too. The reason for me changing the complete lower spring/strut arm (number 35) was because I had a squeaking sound when raising and lowering my car.

Thank you for this. Mine only makes the loud clicking noise- I think I will get part 10 changed to see if that helps. What is the difference in MB dealer parts and ECP (apart from the price difference!)

AFAIK MB use Lemforder (spelling?). ECP sell Lemforder balljoints. Same. Try and stay away from the budget range. The balljoint by Lemforder is high quality and durable.

I will go for them ones, so is it just that MB rip us off for the same part?.

Would ECP do good quality control arms also or is it best to stick with the dealer?

ECP do the exact same control arm as the one MB sells. Not only is it cheaper but you get a further 25% off when you apply the mbclub coupon code.

I was looking on ECP website there. I can't see the control arm which is noted '35' on the diagram above - do u know if they would have that one?

Not sure, I can't see it there either. However there is a person selling this arm in eBay at the moment for £49.99 and describes as very good condition. Might be worth a look.
