Hello all,

I hope you are all well. I am new to the forum and as a young owner I require advice from more experienced owners.

I drive a Diesel 2009 E220 with approximately 140,000 miles on the clock now. Bought the car in the February had quite a bit of work done to it since then. Will list if needed.

When I cold start the vehicle the engine is really loud and nearly holds 1,000 revs for approximately 4-6 seconds before quietening down and dropping down to 650/700 revs. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to hit 60 degrees (coolant pump was replaced two months ago as there was a very slight leak) and then reach 80 degrees reasonably quick once I start to drive.

The car also feels a lot more sluggish now as opposed to before. I am not sure if this is down to the cold.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Do you know the engine code, if its the OM651 they suffer from timing chain stretch. If you here a loud clack clack clack for 4-5 seconds coming from the back of the engine after a cold start its a sure sign its worn. It will need replacing quickly to prevent further damage. No the end of the world.. estimate about £700 for the job at a good merc specialist. I'm not saying thats what it definatekly is.. just its fairly common.

But posting a nice video of the noise may help us to help you :-)
