Hi everyone
I had my car serviced at a Mercedes specialist recently, and since then it's developed a loud noise which sounds like the tappets. As the revs get higher, the noise becomes faster so this leads me to believe its the tappets.
I took it back to the specialist who agreed it was the tappets and changed the oil again - this time leaving the engine flush in for longer and also changed the oil while it was at its hottest. This made no difference however and the noise remains. Having checked with the manual, he put the correct grade of oil in. But the last service i had before i bought the car had a different grade of oil in - a bit thicker.
It's been a few weeks since i had the last oil change, but one thing i have noticed is at tick over, the noise totally disappears.....this is also the same on start up from cold - the noise isn't there. It's only once i get going it really starts getting noisy and really stands out!!
I've tried some hydraulic valve lifter treatment but that didn't do anything. So i was just wondering what you guys think before i spend a load of cash getting the rockers changed?
Is there any physical way of checking the tappets to see if they're worn or blocked up in any way?
Many thanks
Matt
