loud whirring noise

Hi i'm having a problem with my mercedes ml 320 x reg yesterday when i came back home i couldnt get the car into reverse to park (its an automatic) so i tried a little and it managed to work properly then today pulled up at work and i could hear like a loud whirring noise so i turned it off then it smelt a little maybe a burning smell but not 100% sure but when i got out of the car there fluid on the ground any ideas what it could be please

Color of the fluid?
Where is the sound coming from? Under bonnet? Pinpoint the sound and come back with a picture.

Sounds like either a power steering issue or a gearbox one.

The location of the fluid leak and colour will give you more info.

Thanks for the reply i will look tomorrow but i also forgot to mention that just before the whirring sound it kind of sounded like when the brakes have worn out that metal rubbing sound

Hi the location from what I can see if more over to the drivers side and the fluid is a yellow / orangish colour
