Lovely E320 Coupe

I had green-black on my old E280 (w210) and really like this colour.

Is that retro fit parking sensors on the rear?

What do you think it will make?

1996 MERCEDES E320 AUTO COUPE "SPORTLINE" on eBay (end time 07-Oct-09 17:38:10 BST)

Beautiful E320 Coupe - good colours, fab condition, late spec - but from the listing it reads like he's the original owner, turns out he's the 6th, and indeed from his feedback you can see he's dealing.

Shame, i'd have been right keen if it was a one owner. ;)

Always buy that age car on condition - nothing else matters.

That will likely be snapped up by a dealer and he will likely mark it up 100% and you will see it again soon for around 7k in Merc Enthusiast mag.

If you are interested you need to get in quick as it seems a rare genuine car.

Sorry but i disagree, i'm firmly in the camp that a one owner car is always best - assuming it's a little old lady and not the Met Police of course - rather than several owners where goodness knows how it's been driven over its life. Yes i know as long as the maintenance has been kept up-to-date that helps, but i'd still rather pay out for something exquisite with faultless provenance, especially in a classic car that i'd be looking to keep for a good while.

Agreed on what may well happen here re. a dealer buying and marking up, although i have a feeling this one will not be selling for a song anyway.

:)

Low-owner cars are obviously nice to find, but let's be honest - P-Plate E320 Sportline Coupés aren't exactly two-a-penny, especially in reasonable condition/sensible mileage and with a nice spec (electric leather etc).

If it was in lovely condition throughout, would you seriously turn it down for what a digit on the registration document shows?

Could even have been re-registered a couple of times under the same ownership - husband/wife etc or company/private details.

Overall condition probably means more to me than just the ownership figure on the V5.

Yup, being a dealer in disguise would put me off.

"As I am over 60 I am selling for health reasons."

Fairly blatant attempt to look like a private seller, IMO.

Yup, very naughty:(

Out of interest, have you spoken to him to discover he is a dealer and the 6th owner? His e-bay feedback suggests it's on th e 2nd car he's sold this year, plus one previous in 2006, I think.

I'm not arguing with you or doubting you, just curious! :)

Unless he's selling on behalf of a 60-yr old with health problems???? If so, why not say so?!?!?

He also bought an E280 CDI SALOON less than 2 months ago.

A member here was looking to get a c124,i wonder if he did get one.To find a one owner car in this cond and spec,i`ll be difficult as they are geting rarer.

LOL nobody's arguing, maybe differing opinions but hey ho that's always the case :)

I asked him the question via eBay, something like "from reading your description it sounds like you've had the car from new, is that correct?" - if you don't dig into his feedback history i reckon his wording is well saucy all along the lines of "my Mercedes", "been faultless in my ownership", "selling due to ill health" etc.

He did reply saying a one liner of "no i'm not the original owner" or suchlike - not really helping much there - and i did HPI'd the car to find 5 previous owners with the last acquiring it on 5th September 2009..... hmm it's all fitting into place now!

I don't doubt it's a nice one - and yes condition is the number one thing to look at, but i'd always take a similar condition car with one owner history! - but the white lies going on here are offputting, for me at least. :o

Also enquired about this car,and was told 4 owners ,which one is true?
was very vague, when asking a number of questions about the car,

Second time round just to confirm ownership, and ask about major work
carried out in recent years,ie wiring loom, head gasket which was indirectly asked first time, "any major work carried out" so this time asked directly, the question, the reply given.
Hi,
Forgive me but I notice you have not bought on ebay before.I would therefore suggest you view the car before the end of the auction. You can then see all the documentation and inspect the car.
Regards.

make what you will, but like you g55 amg, buyer beware, will give it a miss.
just of the back of two very abrupt replies...

If it helps anyone here, the car was "apparently" sold by Avantgarde in 2007 for £8500, and the seller apparently has set the reserve at £3400, so someone really might get a good car regardless!

I asked the seller the following:

Good evening-Can you confirm that this is private sale or are you a car dealer? Also, the listing reads as zero previous owners. Is this correct? Kind regards-Jim.

To which he answered:

Hello,
I am a private seller.
There are 4 previous owners although I understand that 2 were from the same family.
The car is registered and insured in my name.
Regards.

David

anyone interested needs to check out the service history in detail; it is a cleverly worded ad that leads you to believe that it has a full mercedes history - well thats how I read it first time - then when I re-read it carefully it does not say anything of the sort. I decided it was all a bit OTT and gave the impression of trying to cover something up.
