I have a 2005 W211 with 1.8l engine with Kompressor automatic.

I getting only 25mpg for at least 20 miles before I get 40mpg cruising at 60/70mph. The ambient temp must be at least 15 degrees beforeI can achieved 40mpg else it will be hovering about 32mpg. During cold start before reaching 90 degrees it normally 25mpg.

It I rev very hard to overtake up to 5,000 rev, I can see the fuel indicator drop very quickly.

Is this normal or do I need a tune up? The trip computer is useful but keep me worrying a high tech engine like Mercedes is not burning fuel efficiently.

I would firstly check the air filter is ok, otherwise you need hooking up to diagnostics to check for any codes.

You may have problems of course, but I think the MPG you are achieving is about par for the course for an M271 engine :(

I have a CLK 200K same engine but a manual box and I rarely see better than 34MPG on a run.

My trip computer claims 29.4mpg at an average of 29MPH over more than 80 hours....

Switching off aircon makes very little difference and my car has been MB serviced since new, most recently in March 2009.

If you rev your engine towards the red line, your economy will suffer big time!

Around town, don't expect great mileage but I would agree with Baron that your overall cruise MPG is pretty good for this engine.

Can the 'gearbox' reset be done on this engine/gearbox combo? This is the ignition on/foot down/ignition off one that resets the throttle position sensor.

Might help to try and be a little less leaden footed too!

Kwakdonut,

I don't know about jasonyw, but going easy on the pedal is just too darned difficult

You start off with best intentions but you hear the Kompressor whistle just once by mistake and you gots to hear it again.... and again....

Find myself taking the long way home too often!

on a 1.8l auto?

1.8 komp auto must have close to 200bhp?

Mpg on my car is average over the trip and not actual, ie drive 10 miles and it will say 18mpg thats not 18mpg at that moment but an average of 18mpg since i started the journey.

Drive along motorway at steady sped and press reset and after a mile or two should give you a pretty good idea.

The c180K engine produces 143bhp.

You can't rely on the fuel computer to tell what mpg you are getting at start off. It takes time to adjust. For instance if I reset at 70mph on a motorway, with a hot engine, the reading starts at 23mpg and progresses to beyond 40mpg over about 20 miles. I don't believe I am only getting 23mpg, it's just the computer.

However if you have a full tank and can test your mpg by refilling say 50 miles down the road, you will get an accurate account of your actual fuel use.

I managed 500 miles in one tank of petrol between Tayside and Suffolk in 8 hours using A90, M74, A66, A1 and A14 and trip computer telling me 42.7mpg with ambient temperature of at least 15 degrees and not going faster then 70mph. If I increase the speed to 75mph, it drops below 40mpg.

You car has 163bhp its the e200 kompressor. Its a heavy car, get it remaped it will improve the mpg!

the new 2006+ 200 kompressors have 184bhp thats not too bad!

I suppose 163 bhp aint to bad 143 would be dismal:eek:, i had in my head 230k was 220bhp so just deducted a bit:D.

According to my V5C, it says 120KW and at MB website 184bhp for the current old model.

Hey why are you guys still use imperial while even the government use metric?

Your fuel ecnomy sounds about right for that engine.

They do tend to be thirsty due to the low power and having to work them quite hard to get them to go.

That sounds about right - on my C18OK Coupe - average in 'C' comfort mode on my 11 mile commute to work, starts off at about 26 mpg ,then rise gradually to 38 - 40 mpg,by the time I arrive at my destination - But I achieved 56 mpg on Sunday down the M6 on a 133 mile round trip, set cruise mainly between 60 - 65 mph - god,it was boring though - I could have knitted a jumper.

Quite simply that no one understands metric power! you never say what does your car do to the litre:D

I was bought up on metric, then started in the truck game where everything was imperial and has only recently gone metric ish so i work in both, example :- stores 4 eight inch shoes please, you mean 200mm? F*** knows just give me 4 shoes, im in a hurry:D

I looked at the new E-class(W212 ?) all the engines are CDI with blue efficiency or CGI BlueEFFICIENCY . Is CGI petrol engines?

Is this confirm Merc have do away with Kompressor?
