Low owner 190E cosworth

Looks lovely....but why not MOT it prior to sale.....

I'm sure that was on sale back in Feb as well !

Doesn't sound like a bad proposition at all - nice that he's kept it pretty standard and a low number of owners is also a good sign :thumb:

Working lap timer a bonus - about £300 to replace (if you can source one).

I agree with Talbir though, why not MOT it (~£50) if there's virtually nothing wrong? Seems odd for a car worth ££££s to me?

Door cards are expensive to replace (if even available) and virtually non-existant second hand (in good order).

Stalling problem could be a cheap fix or might be a nightmare (why hasn't it been done?)

Finally the gearbox issue is more than likely worn shifter bushes - pretty cheap and straightforward to replace.

Overall, it looks like a fairly nice example - wonder what the reserve is?

Stalling is usually (9 times out of 10) due to the idle air valve....i had the same on my Cossie when i had one...easy fix.

If the car had an MOT, it'd be a far easier sale....as it stands, could be a moneypit.

looks like a money pit to me... fair few things to get sorted there.

Unfortunately most of them are (as are many 20 year old specialist MBs ;) ), but this is by far better than many on offer - the guy sounds like an enthusiast, seems to have looked after it quite well and most of the important bits sound okay.

So long as it's not thoroughly rotten, runs well and is generally tidy, it's well worth saving.

I would think that this one, with an MOT, original lights and a good service would be worth somewhere around £4-5k fairly easily. One that needs nothing would cost considerably more.

Hence the ? over why he hasn't MOT'd it..?

Just needs a viewing to tell all :)

Well, guess what guys?

I bought it!

To cut a long story short, about this time last week I was still intrigued to know what was the story with this Cossie, the auction had ended about a week before, so i decided to contact the seller & find out.

As it happens the owner was a genuine bloke, who when I rang admitted he messed up the listing by not getting her MOT'd, & the reserve may have been a little too high to generate interest, it was set at 2800 quid.

In the week since the listing ended, he got her MOT'd & was preparing another listing just as I rang.

I made an offer that he considered, but the owner opted to try his luck again on ebay. This time the description was better, with no reserve but a starting price of 2250 pounds put paid to any bids.

Over the weekend we arranged a viewing for me, i went with the reddies & got the car for less than the starting price!

As for the car, its mint. 2 previous owners, look in the service book showed a full Benz service history with 25 main dealer stamps (YES, 25!), all from the same supplying dealer, Robinsons of Norwich.

Theres also receipts that total thousands from the this owner & includes one for close to 1700 pounds for 2 new wings, rear arches & the sides blown over from 2005.

All the hard work seems to have been done by the chap, & she drove beautifully on the 50+ miles journey back to London.

The only issue that is worrying me is that both ASD lights fail to come on when key is in 2nd position. but will try sorting that when I get the time.

Well done! Sounds like perseverance has paid off nicely.
Some new photos would be great as the Ebay ones look very over-exposed.

well done.. I was just discussing this car with another forum member... logged on to ebay to find it had already sold...

glad its gone to a nice home.

When I bought my 2.5-16, the previous owner told me that the ASD light stayed on constantly. He got it and the one next to it - the washer fluid level warning, swapped over. I never had any problems with it so it may be a problem with the light rather than the ASD itself.

yep the light could be anything.. they can be swapped around and you can even simply take the bulbs out.. more than likely a fault that someone at sometime couldnt cure.

Remove the ASD relay (under a black cover in front of the battery), give the prongs a quick clean with some VERY fine sandpaper & plug it back in.

Sometimes fixes the problem.

Curious as to why the vendor would sell it for less than his starting bid now it has a fresh MOT.

Will get some new pics up, once it stops raining here...

Feeling quite bad about the fact that its now parked up in the rain, the chap I bought it off kept it in a garage at all times, & had it polished up using carnuba products. very nice finish I may add.

In regard to the price the chap stated he didnt really need to sell, or there was no pressing issues to him having to sell in a hurry, but he was hardly going to tell me, as that would be putting me in a better position to bargain.

But he did seem genuinely cut up about letting it go. so who knows.

She's also HPI clear. Starts up on the button. No cold start problems. No idle problems so far. The guy had it stall just the once in traffic so we'll see what happens with regards to that.

Update:ASD

Right guys, went out to do what Neil sugested with regards to the ASD relay as that seems the easiest quickest & cheapest place to start.

To my surprise there was no ASD relay under the black cover, went in to the boot where there is a box of bits that came with the car & under a Haynes manual was a black box thing with ASD written on the side plugged it in & presto, both lights light up on the second turn & go out when engine started up.

I cant go for a drive yet due to being blocked in, but am intrigued to know why it was plugged out. Could there be adverse affects with regards to the lights & cars general behaviour with it in?

Like i say it drove back fine when i bought it.

Thanks guys,to all the nice comments.:thumb:

Been out for a spin ASD working fine, ie: triangle warning light came on when pulling out of my road in 1st!

That car sounds like an absolute steal to me!

The mileage (150k) wouldn't really put me off provided it's been maintained well, which it sounds very much like is the case.

Seems strange that the ASD relay was removed, perhaps due to an intermittent fault. There are a few areas that could cause this - and most are fairly straightforward to rectify.

If the warning light does stay on at any time, it'll log a fault which will need to be diagnosed and cleared. There is a simple process for this which I would be happy to explain and is perfectly DIYable :)

A classic example of one of those cars that actually turns out to be much better than you'd expect, especially for the price.

Get these niggles sorted out and I reckon you've got a car there worth at least twice what you've paid for it

I'd start with checking/replacing the bushes for the shifter rods. I did all of mine underneath on Saturday and it's improved the gearshift noticably. Perhaps the bush on the rod that selects reverse is badly worn or damaged hence it's difficult to engage gear.

Parts for all of the shifter rods (ie new bushes/clips) were literally about a tenner from MB.
