Is it worth spending money on a good ball joint removal tool or will eBay do, also can they be done on the floor, space for tool ect..

Got mine from eBay and it works fine.

Changed mine on the floor using a trolley jack.

I had more trouble splitting the taper joint than I did pressing the ball joints themselves out/in of the lower arm.

Bought a small hydraulic splitter which made the job so much easier

Thanks, cars like a squeaky bed

Its do able. As said hardest part is getting the arm off . Think I paid 35 quid for my c clamp ...

Take your action indoors then :p

I found that the hardest part was to press the original ball joint out of the hub.

It does take some shifting tbh. Its no job for a pace maker wearer ..

Decent press and a long (2ft plus) breaker bar, once it starts moving it’s not too bad :thumb:

I have a franklin ball joints spiltter , works great

Satra is a decent lower ball joint removal/install tool. Cost around 35gbp from ebay. I changed mine at home. Had some really hard time splitting ball joint from control arm. one side just did not want to come apart. It just kept breaking the ball joint split tool. the control arm was worn out so I cut through to separate them. Removing old ball joints and installing new ones was very straight forward.

you can inject 1ml of atf into the ball joint to stop the squeeking.
