Hello,

My local Specialist garage has quoted me around £770 for the front lower control arms bushings replacement or about £1k for new arms fitting on my 1993 W202. I know the bushings are £68 from Mercedes and the arms all in are £288 a piece. Does the quote for the bushings alone sound a bit steep? I am being told 8h labour is expected for both sides.

Cheers, M.

Good pattern parts complete with bushes can be had for £110-140
Track Control Arm TRW JTC218 Control Arm buy cheap online
Bearing in mind the age of the vehicle I'm surprised your specialist didn't at least offer this alternative approach to reduce the overall cost of repair?
The Indy I use is an old school Mercedes man and does everything with genuine parts unless you get the parts yourself. I know you can get cheaper arms, Bilstein once can be had for sub £130. I am just a little surprised it's 8h of labour to do the bushings so I wanted a second opinion on it being correct.

bewildered by the price of the Arms Not really knowing the full details of your car we supply DELPHI Steering and suspension which carry a 36,000 miles or 3year warranty.

Be aware of turkish made Febi parts and chinese made Meyle.
They can be questionable.
TRW and Lemforder are the best OEM parts if they are manufactured in their original countries.
Many of the brands have factories in third world where the product quality can be very questionable?
Cheap labor makes cheap parts no matter if the stamp on the part spells TRW or Bosch.
I always check for Made in Germany, Austria etc. etc. then I can expect solid products. :)

So would you say that Hella radiators are rubbish, despite being made in china, Mercedes cars eg ML's from America ?

South African C- clases's ?

Ouch I would be buying a socket set breaker and pry bar and getting my hands dirty. For that money you could buy a 3 bed house up north.

No need to be hostile.

Hella is better from their origin domestic manufacturer.
MB made in the USA is very fantastic. o_O

If you like 'em then you go buy 'em, yes or no?:)

That labour charge would suggest that they are going to remove and re bush the arms on site, that doesn't seem to make much financial sense if the whole unit can be changed for less cash, and you can take the old ones away with you and sell them online. Someone will buy them and re bush them.

The lower arms do corrode too. We have seen some snap in half and the welded end snap off. Do the the arms complete. Decent arms are about £150 each IIRC plus two and a half hours labour.

Yeah they will rebush themselves. It's a bit cheaper to do the bushes rather than change the whole arm and since the arms are OEM and in good nick I am leaning towards buying the OEM bushings and having just them replaced. 8h seems like a lot of shop time tho no?

Yeah but I don't want to live up north :D

Speaking from experience on the labour bit? My shop reckons 6-8h to do the two arms hence I am questioning it here, it seemed a lot of shop time for the two arms to me.

BlackC55 runs a top MB independent workshop as many on the forum can attest to.
By this time these replacement "Mercedes" arms will in all probability be supplied by LEMFORDER or TRW [ part of the ZF Aftermarket Group] anyway. :dk:
