I've just bought an E320 V6 (00) and am considering having it converted to LPG. Does anyone have any experience of this (good or bad feedback) and is there any reason why an LPG converted car cannot also be chipped to produce more power. The options for a tank for the LPG are quite limited. The space saving option seems to be a dougnut type that sits in the spare wheel well. Is it possible to have a space saver wheel mounted under the car?

Don't even hesitate, it's the best money I have ever spent!! (or saved as the case may be!!)

See my experiences http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=19233

Any questions I will be happy to answer!!

I have a colleague whose husband is seriously in the know on these things and he emphatically states that a (properly done) conversion is excellent - same (ish - esp for larger engines) power and much much cheaper to run - just ensure you know where the garages are!!!

I've heard that Italian systems are pants, is this true as each supplier obviously says their system is the best. Difficult to know which one to pick.

If you decide to go ahead with the conversion be sure to use a garage that has been recommended as I have heard of a few horrer stories now where the conversion has not been carried out correctly including a BMW 5 series where in the end the owner paid BMW a lot of money to remove the whole installation as he was so fed up with breaking down all the time! (BMW did not install it by the way)

Unfortunately not, before I purchased the merc I had an S-type Jag which I did consider having converted but after I asked a few people was put off the idea due to reports of unreliability from the conversions and the fact that the boot on the Jag was not that big and the tank would have taken up a lot of space, it was talking to the guy with the BMW that really put me off though, he had so many problems and the main dealer refused to touch the car (it was still under warranty) until the installation was removed.

Ask Blicky 1 where his car was converted, don't let me put you off as I am sure if the work is carried out properly you will have no problems.

I've got my Jeep Grand Cherokee done. I honestly can't tell if its running on gas or petrol until the gas tank gets below 1/4 full and pressure starts to drop off.

I've got an account where I pay 34p a litre for my gas. Jeep does 14mpg around town and 20mpg on a run. Same as 35 to 50 mpg compared to petrol.

Donut tank in wheel well and a couple of tins of puncture sealant to make up for no spare wheel and a RAC membership if things really go Pete Tong.

Mine and another member on this forum (sorry bud forgot your name, has an ML) had ours done at DualFuel in Woking, Surrey. You should be able to find someone local as long as they are LPGA approved then you should be fine. Mine is an 'AG' system BTW

Seven months in now and only wish I had done it earlier, savings are huge!! instal is fully paid off BTW Just check my avator that was taken only last year, at todays prices unleaded in near £1pl and LPG is now around 42ppl. :)

I am now seriously thinking of trading in the missus SportKa and buying her a new car (poss Focus ST) on the monthly savings i'm making!!

Ive got a converted S320 W220 with the prins system but avoid the ICOM tank as the valves give problems!
