c180
I have a C180 4 door Kompressor 2004. Since my last MOT the engine tick over is a bit lumpy and smells of petrol. This happened after they revved car for emissions test, prior to this it was ok.

Another ( may be related) i have engine management light on, can anyone recommend a tester i can buy for engine codes and to test this car please

Would this be a good diagnostics tool or is there one that could be used on other cars too?

Do you get a rattle on start up? and what's your mileage?

Hi, not noticed any rattle, mileage about 70k.
Definitely only started after the rev they give it for emissions test

Runs fine at normal running rev.

Have the codes read at a MB specialist with Star diagnostics first.

Did not want to worry you,but quite likely, they stretch and the cam gears wear too.

To supply and fit chain and gears and associated bits around £1500 at an MB specialist.
Nothing stopping you DIY if you are an above average home mechanic.I would run it past
a specialist first, about £40 to plug in to star and pick his brain at the same time. The above
is worse case scenario, could be coil pack going down, codes read should reveal.Hope you
get a good outcome.

martyz Thank you.

Could i buy a diagnostics as above find the codes myself? or best to get someone out like you say.

Um runs like this, (sounds better though) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DnQQPyoSqs

I guess Mass Air Flow Sensor too.

Diagnostics it is lol

If you do, use IPA spray from maplins,do not touch it,and sometimes it may
damage it...bundle of fun aren't I.:D

just bought some CRC AIR SENSOR CLEAN MASS AIR FLOW METER CLEANER 200ML.
No i wont touch it, 15 squirts on sensor, and a few on connector. (according to youtube) ;-)

Sounds good.:thumb:

Be nice if engine light goes off, petrol smell goes and car idles as it should.. Can but hope.
I will update when done let you know.

Bought a cheap diagnostic tool gave me
P0102 maf
P0172 maf
P0301 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected cyl1
P0303 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected cyl3
P0304 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected cyl4
P0362 coil

Some may be old as had plugs etc changed 6 mths ago

is it worth resetting then see what comes back as fresh faults?

Yes clear the fault codes, did cleaning the MAF work?

Well, not sure as i have bottled it at the moment reading about that clip down the back, the rest of process looks simple enough but think i need one of these to proceed. I did change all my brake pads though ;-)

Interesting, reset codes, warning lights off and it is running at higher rev(normal) and not lumpy.( when i say lumpy i mean ticking over about 600rpm and not really smooth)

Need to give it a run out see if light comes back when warmed up
