Having bought my second mercedes I thought it was time to say hello.

I've had a 2004 320 CLK for about 5 years. Without a doubt the most reliable car I've ever owned. I live in Northumberland and most servicing has been carried out by Staithes Garage in Dunston - top banana.

Well now I've picked up an old SL350. I wouldn't normally buy a 9 year old car, but my experience with the CLK taught me that Mercs are a bit different. I'm a tad paranoid about the well documented 'boot leak' problem, but have plenty of time before next spring to minimise the risks.

Anyway. Hello folks, and I hope to be able to add to the community when I can.

My CLK had new ignition switch at around 49000 miles and £525 gear box repairs at aprox 54000 miles. I think a pretty poor reliability record.
