Ok so I have my car now and the sat nav does not work it is asking for a disc to be inserted .
The car came with a disc which appears to be a genuine one it is labelled as
Europe Navigation DvD COMMAND APS version 6.3
I have tried to load the disc and it goes in Ok then the screen says please wait and eventually flags up as no disc .
Is this a bad disc or a faulty unit

Check disc for scratches. Also it may be worth using a lens cleaner, can't do no harm and they are cheap

Just a quick question, you have inserted the disc into the navigation unit in the boot area and not in the head uniit?

It has been known :)

I assume yuo have an NTG1 head unit?
MB discs are still avaialble but are not cheap, do not be tempted to buy an "official DVD" from eBay etc at around £30, they are are always fakes and will damage your navigation unit.

I am trying it in the head unit I have no idea what the unit is.
I have not seen a unit in the boot area .
The car is a 57 plate M class 320 cdi sport

I thought all of the DVD based units had the navigation unit in the boot or elsewhere behind a flap.

First you need to determine which head unit you have.

In our 2007 ML (with COMAND) the navigation DVD goes into the CD slot Head Unit. The multi-disc CD player (for music) drops down inside the glovebox.

Sorry to drag this back up ,after speaking to comand they have suggested I take the car to them so they can diagnose the system for £120 and maybe sort the problem .
So do I spend this momey out and maybe get it sorted or option b remove the original unit and replace it with one of the android units for £200_250 which is going to be able do more and be more up to date
Any thoughts

Any unit costing £200-£250 is not likely to be of good build quality. It depends if you value originality in terms of audio etc. If you wish to fit an after market head unit I suggest raising your budget to double the figure quoted to allow for a higer quality product and a professional installation.

Update on this , after speaking to the dealer (not MB ) and sending me to someone totally useless to have a look they said we have another M class just come in as Px .
They have swapped over the head unit and this works so I have satnav.
One question though do I have to leave the disc in the head ? if I do I guess that means I cant use the cd player at the same time e as the satnav

Do you not have the CD-changer box in the glove compartment?

The (optional) CD player in glovebox is hidden above the glovebox. Theres a chrome button at the edge near the centre console at the top (or a square blank if you don't)

If you remove the map DVD once you have put a route in it will still navigate but no map display
