My daughter and her friend went to see Sam Fender in Manchester on Friday night and then storm Darragh arrived, whilst they both are adults they of course know better than us old people and chose against my advice to stay put for 24 hours and got the train home to Bristol. All went well until just as they were leaving Wolverhampton station they were advised that the train was to terminate at Birmingham New St. So they ring me, "what should we do etc" no trains south and no trains northwards, no replacement buses. I think the staff at the station went home as trying to coax a fleet of bus drivers out on a stormy Saturday night would need a miracle. So muggins went to get them, the trip from Wiltshire was "breezy" with thankfully minimal traffic until the centre of brum. Holloway Circus is a right laugh, you ignore the fact that it is a roundabout with traffic lights and just pile in, the M Class being bigger than most vehicles was capable of getting a nose in front. New St station was jammed up with cars and two young ladies who couldn't follow the signs to the drop off and pick up area as that involved using their eyes but rather relied on their phones which led them a merry dance. I'm guessing I'll get a ticket for waiting in the no waiting zone. The M Class with her new 19" wheels is way more comfy on our poor roads and soaked up the miles. I'm going to send a bill for mileage to the CEO of cross country trains as they made no provision for onward travel of their passenger, I know they'll ignore me of tell me to naff off you have to try.

Good luck trying to claim for trains stopping due to severe weather. I didn’t even bother trying to claim this time last year when our train from Stansted was unexpectedly terminated at Cambridge because they didn’t have a driver. The only solution offered was to get a train back down into London then take a different line up to our destination. We chose to take the easier, quicker but expensive late night taxi instead. Paid for it out of the Ryanair compensation for getting us to Stansted four hours late.
